I pulled my drivers side wheel off today b/c a new clicking noise started last week. I only heard it when driving straight, but went away when I was turning. I pulled the wheel off to find this...



I pulled off the passenger side to compare.


I am not even sure if the noise is related, but I did not feel good about seeing this. So, can anyone tell me what I need? It appears to be a 1.5 bolt with 12mm nut. On the passenger side, only one of the bolts has a nut on it. Is this how it should be?

Heading to Lowes now. Is there a particular nut/bolt I need to look for?

And I assume this is not safe to drive on?

You should have two bolts and nuts on each side. That could very well be your noise as the sway bar will move when cornering, if one side is loose it could cause noise. It is not a crucial part to the suspension, as in, if it came loose while driving it wouldn't cause an accident, and a lot of drag racers/4x4's run without them at all, but for your daily driver you should def. tighten/replace the bolts as soon as you can though it is "safe" to drive if needed.

yes safe to drive. just dont drive like a nut.
You need a new sway bar link. get a new link it comes with the hardware.

You don't need a new link, his link is perfectly fine and straight as you can see in the picture. You just need two nuts and bolts, Grade 5 hardware would most likely suffice but if you want to be sure you can go for Grade 8. You can either go to your local Fastenal store and they can get the proper stuff for you, or buy the appropriate bolts from McMaster Carr online, either way will be much cheaper than the dealer. They are just nuts and bolts, nothing major.
