Default painting rims picss

kinda a noob when it comes to painting....
i bought this car and these are the rims that came with it.

i really like the look of the all black..
but the brake dust just takes over after like a day of driving and it makes my car look "cheap" according to some people when its not clean.

but in my opinion i think it still looks good. but i think it would look better if the bolt pattern by the lip or whatever you call it was chrome..
would this be easy to do myself? or if taking it to a professional would be better i wouldn't mind taking it to a paint shop. and if i were to take it to a paint shop, how much do you think it would be??? not looking for exact answers just estimates.. I also might be thinking of also getting parts of the spokes chrome.. like can you see the little humps on the rims?.?.?.. haha but yeah and im pretty sure the rims were bought chrome but painted black so idk if there is something special they have to do to get the paint off..

these are the look im going for with this whole paint thing

vvvv i know these arn't chrome but use your imagination! ^^^^

perfect example

trying to difff
what do you guys think???

ohh and by the way im new here and this is my car

thanx guys :] and sorry if the pics were to big

Welcome to CL! If your wheels are a true two/three piece wheel, then you can remove the bolts and just strip the paint. If they are not, then getting those bolts back to chrome is going to be a bit difficult. I would try to remove one and see if it comes out. If it does, take the wheels off the car, remove all the bolts, and drop them into a container of paint stripper. If it doesn't come out then, taking it to a pro might be the best route. Good luck!

from the first pic, i doubt they are 3 piece wheels. u can check by feeling it. if there is nuts/bolts holding the face in, u can definitely tell.

You could remove the fake bolts since it is held on by glue I believe (probably just needs to be popped off), and then maybe put it new fake chrome bolts. Then again, if you pop them off, you might scrape the paint around those areas. It seems like a hassle to me but it's not impossible. And if it's a one piece wheel (which it looks like), you cannot chrome just the the spoke or the middle of the spoke, you'd have to dip the entire wheel. I would just leave it as is and search for a new set.

fwiw.. if the rims were originally chrome, you "should" be able to use a paint stripper and get the paint off. unles they were painted professionally, it should come off pretty easy. then you can just start over.. mask the parts you want to be chrome and repaint them.. peel the masking off and clear coat the whole thing. more durable that way too, seals the edges.
