Bye - Bye GS430
After 8 years of ownership, I finally decided it was time to move on and get a new ride.
I sold my 01 GS430 (88K miles) over the weekend to a private party and while I was sad to see it go, I look forward to driving my new car. I can honestly say that the GS430 will go down in my record book as the most reliable car I’ve ever owned. Over the years I’ve read many posts about common GS issues and I’m happy to say that my car must have been one of the lucky one’s. Outside of normal wear and tear items (brakes, wiper blades, tires and batteries), my GS was in the shop for maintenance and performance upgrades. As for mechanical problems during my 8 years of driving, I had two belts replaced and the ECT light socket all of which failed while under warranty. Believe it or not…that was the extent of my mechanical issues. As for Body integrity, my only complaint was the “sun roof rattle”. As luck goes, the sunroof rattle started after the warranty expired so I just learned to live with it. I drove the car in a spirited manor but I never abused it. Brake torque starts and manual gate shifts were a “no” “no”
in my book…left it in “D” and let the computer do its job.
In a nut shell, all I had to do was stomp on the gas and enjoy the rewards of Lexus mechanical wonders compliments of the silky smooth 300hp engine embellished by the 3:76 limited slip with my 275/35’s in back while listening to the sweet exhaust note bellowing from the Rod Millen mufflers all while experiencing the improved handling of L-Tune shocks and springs without sacrificing OEM ride quality.
I know some of you will ask what I got to replace the GS430. Well the answer is a new 09 BMW 335i sedan with premium, sport, and nav. I know some of you may want to flame me but before you do, keep in mind that I’m still part of the Lexus family with the 08 RX350 so be nice...
In closing, I don’t expect the new 335i to be as reliable and my old GS430, but then again, will I ever find another car as reliable as that one…?

335I's are pretty nice, i drove a friend of mine's sedan and was really impressed with the acceleration, braking and handeling. Of course it won't be as reliable as the GS, but heck i guess you gotta change things up sometimes, and if you get rid of the 335i within a few years you'll probably be okay before it has any issues..

Are you gonna mod the BMW?

Hey Mike...how's it going? Not sure if you remember but I'm the ex-Charlotte NC guy who gave you and Dave those free lexus parts...now I'm living in the SF Bay Area. I still plan to stick around...wife loves the RX350 and I must admit, I also like the ride...we drove 2700 miles from Charlotte NC to Brentwood CA last year and it was very comfortable. As for the 335i, I see that Dinan has a stage 2chip option that will bump hp to 384 and torque to 421 for $2200. I will most likely do it but I need to wait awhile...gota watch my spending

The RX is so just, smooth. The 335 is such a great performance vehicle and easy to mod, I am sure you are eventually going to mod it, especially being in Cali now.
