My car won't start!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, About a month ago, my beloved was broken into and all my audio stuff was stolen. Head unit, tv's ...etc. The shop where my car was, broke my key and had to replace it with a new one. Need less to say it needed to be re-programed. That was about two weeks ago when I got the car back, and it was fine until this morning. Now it won't start, could it be the key? I have a video of what it sounds like when I try to crank it.

Please HELP!!!!

do u know if fuel pump is working? starter good? injectors, etc etc etc etc

Mr Jokster Oct 8, 2009 01:30 PM

Its definitely not the starter or else it wouldnt be turning over. After turning your key like that over and over, do you smell gas? Also when you just turn to ignition position, do you hear that high pitch sound of your pump turning on? Things to check is spark. Remove one of plug wires and have someone hold it close to a ground while cranking and see if spark is coming out. Could be bad crank sensor, timing, ignition coil/box. Now that I think of it, I dont know how the key works, but it may disable all mentioned and fuel pump (as a starter kill). If theres spark, you can do the gas soaked rag deal over your intake and see if fumes start the car, just dont let go of rag or it will be sucked in :p than can also rule the fuel pump.

I don't recall smelling gas, on the other hand I wasn't out there very long. Im going to try everything mentioned and hope one of these solves the problem. Thanks for all the input.:)

I had the same problem

My problem would sound exactly like that but it was inconsistant until one day my car just gave out on the free way to where the engine was on but i would gas it and no go. I had to replace the full throttle body, and also replaced all of my sparkplugs. Also there was a connector that melted for somereason and my mechinic just straight wired it. Well hope this helps. My car still does it once in a blue moon, specifically in my parking structure at work. Let me know if you find anything else out. when this first happened i took it to lexus and they couldnt diagnose it.

does the car have gas. maybe the gas gauge is broken and the car is out of gas.

Logic would dictate that if the key was working for 1.5 weeks, it is probably not the key. That sort of chugging noise is indicative of some cylinders hitting, but not all. Usually if you have no spark or no fuel it will just crank continuously without any hiccups in there. That being said, it could have low fuel pressure, a gigantic vacuum leak, restricted exhaust, timing issue, etc. First try putting the pedal to the metal and cranking. Second try taking the intake tube off and move it out of the way (keep any wires hooked up). Get carb cleaner. Have someone spray (no straw) into the intake (in bursts) as the other person cranks. See what you get with that.

Hey thanks cuz as a matter of fact im going to try that out tomorrow, due to the wonderful chicago weather i have been unable to really get into it but thus far all suggestions has been great and I thank you all for your helpful hints. If this doesn't work I will update you all .......

joel1484 Oct 10, 2009 02:01 PM

oh ok i missed the part where it worked for a week and a half, yeah def not the key then , sucks dude good luck

Lex-Fiend Oct 10, 2009 03:31 PM

This morning we took the intake tube off and it started right up, but when we put it back (car still running) is stayed running. We shut it off and it started again. 5 hours later, fired right up. I'm confused now. WTH could this have been?

P.S. It runs smooth just like before. No coughing or putting. Nothing.
