I'm BACK!!! but needs help...
So i sold my GS430 about 1.5 yrs ago and got myself a G35 (always wanted one), which i still have now, but i just picked up a 99 GS300 since i missed it, and i'm kind of tired from civics wanting to race me all the time..... so will be getting rid of the G35.
Problems with this GS: Please Advice I'm in the Houston area so if you are in the same area and would like to help, please do. I will provide food and beers :D GS300 w/ horrible alignment problem, but i think theres more to it (might not even be the alignment). I always have to hold onto the steering wheel otherwise it would steer to the right (real bad). On freeway, i would have to hold the steering wheel w/ 2 hands, almost fighting w/ the steering to drive straight. Comfort is not the same as much as i can remember from my previous GS, so could it be that i need new suspension system? I dont think its the ball joints since there are no noise when i'm turning. I dont think its the axel either, otherwise there would be noises as well right? A friend told me it might one of the piston that press on the pad is locked up to the brake, so its like i'm driving w/ one side of the brake always being pressed. Any ideas? Thanks in advance guys. I sure do miss the Lexus community! |
If your brake was sticking bad enough to require two hands on the freeway, the rotor would probably be glowing red hot when you come off the freeway.
Simple check for a frozen brake caliper is to put the car on a slight incline and see if it rolls down the incline when you put it in neutral. I am guessing you have either an alignment problem, or bent suspension components, or maybe something as simple as an underinflated tire. Check the right front tire if it is pulling to the right. |
bad pulling can be many things.
-low tire pressure on one side -worn tire -tie rod/ends check those first. then if those r good, go get an alignment. its not expensive so why not do it |
May want to check your steering bushings as well. You can take it to http://www.swalignment.com/ they are off of Richmond between Fondren and Hilcroft. You should prob look into getting a camber kit for the tires, because the GS is known to eat tires and comes from the factory with camber.

Jeff's not in Houston...he's in DFW area.
First thing I would do...Its a 99 so I'd change the ball joints regardless. Then check the tie rods and replace if necessary. Finally get an alignment. They'll be able to tell you if someting is out of wack because they won't be able to align it correctly. I'm up in Austin but I go to Houston every now and then. If you dont get the problem fixed by the next time I head down, I'll give you a hand. OH and welcome back :) |

Could also be your rack and pinion. Be aware.
