245/35 and 275/30 in either 19" or 20" is considered a "standard" setup. Most fat setups are for those running 19" wheels. You hardly see anyone with 20" wheels with a fat setup because it will... 1) Look pretty goofy without a drop 2) If you are dropped, it will rub because of the large wheel + fat tires 3) Throw your speedometer off even worse.

I understand wehre you're going so let's look at the numbers.

According to the post originally posted by Author (I think he started it): rominl

When it comes to tires for the GS, the following setup are preferred:

Wheel Size Tires Within Spec?
18x8 235/40/18 245/40/18 yes
18x8.5 245/40/18 yes
18x9 245/40/18 255/40/18 yes
18x9.5 275/35/18 yes
18x10 275/35/18 285/35/18 yes
19x8 235/35/19 245/35/19 yes
19x8.5 245/35/19 yes
19x9 245/35/19 255/35/19 yes
19x9.5 275/35/19 yes
19x810 275/30/19 285/30/19 yes
19x8 235/40/19 245/40/19 no (fat setup)
19x8.5 245/40/19 no (fat setup)
19x9 245/40/19 255/40/19 no (fat setup)
19x9.5 275/35/19 no (fat setup)
19x10 275/35/19 285/35/19 no (fat setup)
20x8.5 245/35/20 no
20x9 245/35/20 255/35/20 no
20x9.5 275/30/20 no
20x10 275/30/20 285/30/20 no

I'm focused on the 19x9 front, 19x10 rear, I'm lowered on coilovers with front RCAs. I have a "conservatively aggressive" fitment without cutting/rolling and am not opposed to it; I really just need to see if it looks goofy or not and get some general impressions of how people feel about their fitment.

According to the math the fat set up comparison 245/40-19 vs. 245/35-19 will yeild .96 inch taller tire; fat set up 275/35-19 vs. 275/30-19 will yeild 1.08 inch taller tire (beefy). According to www.1010tires.com the speedo difference is either at or less than 2% too slow (larger) opposed to 2.5% too fast (smaller-spec) so the change is nominal enough to not have concern.

Speeo comparison to stock:

245/40R19 (fat)
Speedometer Difference: 2.144% too slow
Diameter Difference: +2.1%

245/35R19 (standard)
Speedometer Difference: 1.546% too fast
Diameter Difference: -1.53%

275/35R19 (fat)
Speedometer Difference: 1.609% too slow
Diameter Difference: +1.59%

275/30R19 (standard)
Speedometer Difference: 2.589% too fast
Diameter Difference: -2.53%

If I understand the application correctly, the section width is exactly the same for standard or fat set-up will not rub unless someone pushing out to the corners. So if someone is lowered they can raise the height of the springs and tuck the tires oppsed to riding more on the rims.

ZippyGuy: I'm glad you worked on the numbers there. Yes, the width of the tire would be the same for 245/40 and 245/35 and the only difference would be the sidewall height. I'm not sure what your offsets are on the 19x9 and 19x10 wheels you have, but remember, some tires (different manufacturers) are more squared and some are rounder. Even at the same tires specs, this could be the difference of whether you rub or not while going over speedbumps, dips, etc.

That's an excellent point and what's driving me nuts. Hopefully responses will mention and fender work and their tire size.

These seem to be they typical tire size...but what is the lowest offset on a 20x10 rear wheel with the above tires, without having to role the fenders?

And a near perfect alignment with very little camber.

I was running a 245/35/19 in the front (close to stock-tire circumference) with a 275/35/19 (fat setup) in the rear.
