What is the tradeoff? I'm guessing the 3.76 final gear ratio is lower than stock to give better off the line performance? If so, does it cut down on top end speed?

def gs430

Here is a funny one for you KID... There was a red GS for sale and I asked my son what he thought about red. He said he didn't like red cars but that he had not seen a picture of a red Lexus. I Googled GS400 red and one of the links that came up was your car. I showed him the photo and he yelled out that I should buy the car and that it looks great in red! Told him that was your car and your paint job alone almost eats up my full car budget. You have an awesome looking car. Even people who don't like red like it on your car! Is your color pretty close to the stock Lexus red?

The search is over. '99 GS400 with 73K miles in very clean condition. We actually love the color despite me not being sure until I saw it in person. Damn, it drives nice. Feels like it is on rails. Rims look weird in photos but looks fine in person. Nice that it doesn't need any work at all. Got it from a nice man in his 70's. I don't think he ever floored it. He seemed surprised when I test drove it and stomped on it. LOL. Hoping it has a lot of life left in it.

That's nice! Looks like the old dude did some mods, too! Guess this is a hobby you can take into your old age.

This one drives so nice. I'm guessing perhaps the others I drove with higher miles needed new shocks? This one came with 235/50/ZR15 Michelin Pilot Sport tires. Maybe the combo of the lower miles and the tires is making the difference. Don't know how to tell if the suspension is stock. But it feels tighter than the other ones I drove. It also lights up the tires when you stomp on it. Maybe there is a ECU mod chip hiding under the hood? LOL! But by how he reacted to my test drive I don't think he ever drove it hard.

BTW, what is the consensus on painted calipers? Cool, ricer, okay, preferred....???

I would paint the calipers black. They have a vinyl decal kit to do a Lexus on the front ones and a lexus logo on the back ones. Look it up, theres a DIY. But I would say the consensus will be ricer.

...nice pick-up man. TBH, I love my 400 and if I had a chance to sell it and get a 430, I wouldn't because they are too similar. Both are nice cars though also some 430's have issues (check engine light) with the high stall torque converters (should you want to do this mod down the road); the 400's don't have a problem.

My next car will be MUCH different; to keep things fresh.

Good luck to you!

I know, I know, I know... What do you call the rims I Photoshopped onto this picture of my GS400? I want to look for a used set of them but don't know what they are called. They are stock Lexus rims but I don't know the style name or number. There are a few that look similar but I want to try to find these exact ones in 17".

Thanks for the compliments and I have to say I love this car. The steering wheel shifters are fun too. Keep her at 4500 and when you hit the gas she'll give you whiplash.
