Default Car wouldnt stop accelerating after letting off gas

So I was playing with a mustang a little bit. We were at a light a brake trqed it just a little bit. We both launched off the line after a little bit we started coming up on cars and i let off the gas and the car kept accelerating i pressed on the brake and the car was still pushing i slammed on the brakes and they started squiling. Finally it stopped pushing and slowed down.
This is the second time this has happened. Last time it happened I thought I was going nuts. Last time there was nothing infront of me so it wasnt a big deal. It seems to do it when I brake torque it. Thats just my first guess. I might test it out later tonight when its safe see what happens. Anyone have this problem or know whats going on or how to fix this problem? It doesnt do it with normal driving.

Its a 2000 GS400

Probably something wrong with your APS(Accelerator Pedal-position Sensor). The potentiometer inside may not be returning back fully sometimes.

Maybe you have a sticky throttle plate

i agree check out your throttle body and if it happens again just throw it into neutral it may rev up high but you can also kill ignition and coast it but youll lose power steering, and at least it will keep you from going faster and hitting something or somebody.

this happened to me a few months back and I ended up replacing the throttlebody assembly. It was pretty scary cause my wife and kids were in the car...

Like the other guy said, just put it in neutral if it happens again and coast to a safe stop. Should be one of the first things taught when learning to drive.

• floor mats
• TB plate
• Throttle Cable
• Gas Pedal POT

BTW you know you're ripping apart your engine mounts when you do your lil power braking stunt right ? That WILL cost you about $200 in parts (left, right, rear mounts) and $200 in labor from a non-dealer shop. I should know I broke one of my mounts IN HALF and wore out the rear/trans mount.
