Unhappy Intake loud and getting louder

ok so as im out today (after getting hit by the gate at my complex) i begin to notice that my intake (SRT) is considerably louder than it has been in the past. today wasnt actually the first day that i had noticed it, but with the mood i was in, it really began to bother me. at first, i thought that maybe the filter was coming loose.........checked that no problems. all of the other fittings are snug as well. it almost feels as if the car is struggling to make power. of course this may be a figment of my imagination caused by the sound. has anyone else experienced this? i will be making a call to Mo in the morning but i just wanted some feedback from you guys. ARGGHH this day has been horrible, is it tomorrow yet!!!!!!

Default SIMPLE

Very simple solution. Dump that garbage and get a Weapon R system. That little black box is just a few wires connected to a couple of $.15 resistors from Radio Shack. Yep, you paid 595.00 for an OK intake and a black box with a few resistors. In fact I can build the exact "ECU" for less than ONE DOLLAR!!. Dont believe me?Pop it open and look.

See........simple.

It sounds as if there is a loose fitting somewhere. Go and double check the entire route of the intake. Also have the hood up while someone revs the engine, that way you can try to see if there is a spot that is louder than normal.

so what makes weapon's ecu special..........the fact that it has a nice little sticker on it i have yet to see ONE independent dyno of car that uses a weapon r intake/ecu combo. Not one!! but yet all you guys sit around and bash SRTs claims and whatever. give me a break. i am so tired of this sideline crap. i mean how hard is it to take someone elses design and modify it? the phrase "standing on the shoulders of geniuses" comes to mind. some of you guys have your intake/ecu for months, but no results yet. but whenever someone dynos a car with the SRT equipment, here come the haters. "dude you lost .3TQ" i am completely satisfied with the performance, quality and the service that i have been given by Mo and Marken. i have nothing to gain by the endorsement of their products. im just tired of the "mine is bigger than yours" stuff that goes on with reference to these 2 products. if yours is bigger, whip it out then. i feel better now

Doc

PS this was not meant to offend anyone. hopefully no one takes it as such

thanx christobol. when i checked it this evening, i merely checked with my hand to see if anything is loose. at lunch tomorrow (today) ill do a more thorough job. the increase in volume is prolly my imagination but it sure seems real

Default hmmm

Have you seen ONE INDEPENDENT DYNO of the SRT system that showed an increase? We wont even discuss the lies that SRT post on their website. NOT ONE! Yet many dynos of just the Weapon R intake showed an increase. Just because it sounds louder does not mean it is faster. Besides, if the SRT system was made better, the hoses would not be seperating like yours is. Poor fit and finish. Facts are facts. SRT systems just blow and the owners just flat out lie. This has been proven also.

I've heard negative things about both companies, along with their intakes. I think that personal feels often affect the 'facts' that people express. One great thing would be for someone that everyone on the board knows, to have both intakes and to install each, dyno between installs. So 3 dyno's in all, one with the stock intake, one with WR, and the last with the SRT. To be REALLY fair would be to have a WR guy there along with someone from SRT (or someone that supports those companies) to ensure that the install was done properly so that the loser can't complain that the install had to be bad.

Any takers? It might even be possible for a few people to put $5 or $10 bucks towards this experiment to cover the dyno costs, and the cost of the intakes (assuming that neither company is willing to temporary donate an intake for this test). What do you guys think?

Default YES!!!

I agree. We shall be gentleman and meet at high noon for the showdown.

WR ECU/CAI vrs. SRT ECU/CAI

I will also pitch in for the contest. From what I understand the updated WR ECU should be done shortly.

So Bliu,Leo, Mo, whenever your ready, give me your Paypal account for the $

many dynos, huh? so how much did your car increase with the weapon*r? surely, to be so bold, you have graphs to back it up. i mean you guys took mr johnsons graph and gs400 pushers graph and surmised that pusher lost .3 TQ. very scientific indeed and then to say that my hoses are separated? you are obviously part of the old psychic friends gang. my problem with this whole situation is that i asked a question about sound, and instead i get a diatribe about resistors and radio shack. please do this comparo soon, b/c this back and forth thing is sooo played.

yeah mumbles everything is pretty cool. just a small crease in the A-pillar. i did a write up about it in lobby. thanx for the concern, bro.

Dr Rick,

For the Record since I was one of the major commentors on both Dr Rick's and Mr Johnson's Dyno graphs...I APPLAUD their dyno graphs because they prove to me that SRT is giving FALSE advertisement. I never criticized or discounted their graphs. In fact, I thank them for shedding light on the subject.

Notice, SRT never answered any of my questions. Instead, they decided to throw in a pissing contest to diffuse the situation. You fell for it just like a lot of others. Comparos are great. Street racing of each prodcut is great. BUT IT STILL DOES NOT ANSWER MY QUESTION OF FALSE ADVERTISING!!!!!!!!

Neither graph proves or shows nearly the amount advertised (+30HP and +40 ft-lbs of torque). I never brought Weapon R into MY Discussion. If Weapon R dyno graphs show the same kind of FALSE advertising as SRT then I will question them in the EXACT SAME fashion.

To be honest, if SRT sold the intake alone, I would seriously considered buying it. It is great quality. I just won't pay $600 or more for it.

Please don't misunderstand me...I am neither a Weapon R nor a SRT endorser. I am a customer that EXPECTS some truth to advertising claims. I am surprised that you are in such denial but if you are happy spending $600 or more for the performance shown in GS400 Pusher's graphs then good for you....Enjoy it. I would rather spend my money on something more concrete.

As for your intake noise, it comes with the territory. I am sorry it annoys you but they ALL have that whistling/sucking noise and you will hear it more on some days than others depending on the density of the air. I would expect colder days to be louder since it is denser and heavier...but I am just theorizing...

Brent

brent,

like i said my problem lies in where you guys are basing your theories. you cant take Mr Johnsons "before" graph and GS400 Pusher's "after" graph and tell what gains may or may not have happened. if you get someone who does the before and after dyno, on the same day, same car and then their numbers dont match up........fine. it wouldnt be the first time that a manufacturer has over-inflated their performance increases. it just frustrates me that there is alot of quick bad mouthing going on. hopefully this will all be resolved soon and everyone can move on.

BTW youre theory coincides with what Mo told me earlier. change in ambient temp is going to change the resonance frequency, thus changing the tone. thanx

Cool! Glad I am not just talking out of my ***...I thought that might be it since I notice a change as well whern the ambient temp changes...

On a completely off topic since the thread is buried long ago...

What ever resulted in your aftermarket warranty and the Lexus service dealer? Thanks for any info.
