Curious my 2G3 has 214K on the clock and I'm due for a timing belt, water pump, etc. Is this a "do this while you're in there" job? I guess when I take things apart I'll know if its leaking or not. Or are you guys only doing this if its leaking?

I did mine because of a leak. Its not a bad idea though sense your doing a timing belt replacement.

I'm tossing around the idea of applying polyurethane glass adhesive to the areas at the front and back of the VVT-i intake pulley to control the oil leak. This stuff bonds well to metal and has excellent tensile strength.

The only other unkown variables are the pressure of the oil and the working temperature of the intake pulley. I should be able to achieve good bond strength by sanding the metal with 400 sandpaper and wipe clean with 90% alcohol. Chance of success is 50%.

I get your point. Problem is that nasty crankshaft bolt that's torqued to ~250 ft-lbs. Do you have access to the full service manual? May I obtain a copy if that's not too much trouble. Let me know if you can help by PM.

TIA,
F

what do you need to look up crankshaft or camshaft bolt(s) torque?
the more specific you are the better I can scan what you need.

P.S. Removing the radiator/fan assembly should give you enough space to get an impact gun in there.
if you care to know I just used a breaker bar and tightened to as much as I could. my mechanic buddy said that the engine revolutions (direction) will keep it tight. I don't feel to great about using an impact on that crankshaft bolt. just my parinoia, and black cloud that follows me around...lol

Can you give me a scan of the removal/assembly of the intake, exhaust, and crankshaft seals? Also a quick scan of the radiator removal would be helpful.

I would think that you're going to need another tool to lock on the crankshaft before you can use the breaker bar to remove the crankshaft bolt. An impact wrench should be able to pop out the bolt without effort. I agree that it may not be safe to use the impact wrench to torque the bolt. However, setting the impact wrench to the medium setting should get the torque to about 250 ft-lbs.

TIA for your help.

I understand that but I was talking about tightening the bolt not loosening..

Just replaced the timing belt and now VVT-i is leaking, anyone installed the o-ring without replacing a timing belt?

Changed the o-ring, no leak but the warning lights are still on. Any Idea why?
