Performance of GS 300 vs 400/430
Hi everyone. I am looking at a 2004 GS300 with 29K miles. They are asking $17,900ish but the car has been around awhile so I bet they would take much less, maybe $15-16k cash out the door. The car was a 3 year lease in New York and has been bouncing around dealers I guess since auction in November 2007. From my initial drive the car is clean and tight.
My question is I am looking for some stat sheets on the 300 vs the 400/430, much like Motor Trend lists at the end of their reviews. Horsepower, brakes, braking distance, 0-60 times etc., if you know what I mean. Anyone have a link to a post or other website? I know some forums have model spec breakdowns but I haven't found one here.
Since the fuel economy is so close, I would love a 400/430, but this clean 300 maybe too clean to pass up. I'm coming from a 2.8 Audi A6 which was slow, so I don't want to make the same mistake here with V6 vs V8. Thanks in advance.

a GS300 will perform like your current car. If you don't want that...either get a turbo or turbos for the 300 you buy (and with 29k that could be nice ) or go straight out for the 400 or 430. Do searches. This has been covered numerous times since 1998.

Well I doubt it is that bad. Does a GS300 do 0-60 in 11 seconds flat?
Yeah, I assumed it had, but I was hoping someone could help me out, maybe there was a good bookmarked thread or something.

The 6 cyl is not slug by any means, but the v8 is just much faster. Being that on the used market GS300 and GS430 go for almost the same price, and they get roughly the same fuel mileage, I don't see a reason to go with the 6 cyl. Plus with the v8 you get HIDs and usually wood steering wheels.

Since your question is based primarily on performance and it seems like that is a concern for you then I would think that it is a no-brainer to go with a 400 or 430. There really isn't a comparison performance wise between the 300 and 400/430 out of the box.
With some money and the right modifications the 300 has great potential but if your not looking to go down that road I would look for a 400 or 430.
