Anyone else notice the cluster (dash) back lighting seems dim?

In my 03 GS430 i notice the gauges are really dim at night compared to anything else i have driven .
Is it just me or everyone has the same thing or feeling.
BTW i have turned up the dimmer switch .
Also i did not take pics as they are going to be off since the light is variable and unable to use a baseline.

yeah.... i always thought that it was adequate but still on the dim side.

It seems more than bright enough for me. I have mine abougt half way up. Perhaps I just tend to set them on the dimmer side than others since I don't like bright cluster lights. Mine is not set too dim either though.

yeah mine seems dim too..

Didnt one vendor just make backlights for the cluster on the 1GS? He needs to come in here and make some for us

sakataj 12-02-08 12:48 PM

yeah even with my dimmer set all the way up i still think mine are dim....and if u squint u can see the middle gauge is dimmer than all the rest.....verfied that in 4 gs i have been in

jcat_350 12-02-08 12:50 PM

well yeah the center gauge is larger but uses about the same length cathode tube so it is dimmer by nature. As for the dimming, with mine all the way up but just under daytime setting I love the way it looks at night. Bright enough to be easy to read but dim enough to not be distracting.

am i the only weirdo that turns off my gauge cluster so i can enjoy the having a pitch black cabin?

Vincent123 12-02-08 12:56 PM

Mine too. There is a sensor that dims the light. Does the same thing when I go under a bridge during the day.

I use a flashlight at night when driving :)
