DIY Video: Magnefine Power Steering Filter Install
 

Hello all,

My friend who owns a 2001 GS300 was experiencing some power steering problems. There were all sorts of noises and it really just sounded like the power steering pump was crapping out.

I recommended for him to flush the power steering fluid as a first step, and then take it from there. He decided to go ahead and have me install a Magnefine power steering filter for him and I'm not sure if it was the flush or the filter, but the end result is a very well operating power steering system with no noise :)

but isnt power steering fluid in lexus supposed to last the lifetime of the vehicle?

Nothing is lifetime fill. It's normal for the rack, pinion, PS pump, hoses.. all those items to wear as a function of time and use. All that stuff floats around and starts causing problems later down the road. Best thing to do is put one of these on right when you get your new car, and keep it on.

Sure, you can just keep the OEM fluid in there forever, but the performance and exponential wear you will incur is not worth it.

I'd recommend watching this G35 install to get an idea of how to actually flush the system and get all the air out.

btw you are pretty smart for using knee pads when getting onto the floor
my knees always hurt when i have to get down to look for something lol

And yeah, as for the knee pads, I do a lot of car work - so they are a necessity.

The forcefield pre-filter is a lot less ghetto than the harddrive magnets I have strapped to my oil filter.

nice vid...too bad the music is garbage.

i use my brake bleeder vacuum system and just flush the fluid every 30k with redline ps fluid. i've been using it in my supra for years and works great in my STi, S13, Seq. how often are these filters replaced?
