TV on 99 GS400 with Nav?
I have read and searched for awhile on this site and have not found out what I need to do. I saw an older post from Vlad from back on '02, but it is now locked and I am not sure if we ever got any more info on how to do this.... What are the options? I don't want to take out the stock Nav setup, but would like to get it to play DVD's for roadtrips, traffic, etc... I know I will be adding the DVD unit, but can it done and if so has anybody done it or have a DIY showing how?
Thanks!!
Thanks!!

there is a way to do it and i am doing it right now. U have to buy the equipment from navtool or someone and install it in the trunk, needs some wire cutting - four to be exact and one splice. It works with a switch, when the switch is on whatever is playing from a dvd player will show on the screen and when the switch is off the screen switches back to stock.

Yes, positive, you just have to reduce the contrast on the Navi screen and it shows just like a regular lcd screen. The only problem I noticed is that when u are watching from the back seat it does not seem that bright and clear and that is because the Navi screen is tilted. If u should raise up a bit then it is as good as a regular lcd. But from the front seat its as good as LCD. I will take pics and post later today.

What else u want to know. It works if u connect the wires properly. Also if u have the proper equipment. I use this one
http://www.tvandnav.com/index.asp?Pa...ROD&ProdID=329
but there are others. Not sure if the others work the same as this. Also this only brings up the picture on the screen, for sound u will have to use an FM Transmitter or FM Modulater. I don't know what else u want to know but ask specific questions and I will answer them the best I can. I will post pics of the picture quality later today.
OH, the unit gets hooked up in back of the Nav Computer in the trunk where you cut four wires.

Yeah but the only way u will get it to work with the 1998-2000 navi is by cutting the four wires. I haven't found any kit that would be plug and play for our cars. The plug and play is for the newer version, 2001 to 2005. Also when joining the wires u have to solder them for the best result.

I already knew about the plug n play setup for 01-05... But like Dave said for us with the older setups we need to cut wires...
What DVD setup are you running and where do you have it mounted? Glovebox? Center console? etc....... Any pics you can share would be great...
What do you think the total cost you have in the system is?

Here is a pic of the Navtool. I did not hide it away yet and u see the switch, I have to run the wire for the switch to the front where I can easily switch from stock to the dvd.
Cost.
Navtool = $350 but I got it for $200 from someone on CL
Xovision DVDplayer + Tuner + Headrest LCD tvs = $250
FM Modulator = $30
Installation = 0, I did myself total cost $480

Umm...isn't the government be going to get rid of over the air TV signals soon? And that antenna TV will no longer work? I thought everything is going digital...
I could be mistaken.
