Just did this, kind of a pain to get the belt to go in the way you want. no more squeak!

So easy, a caveman can do it!

Only if it needs it. Make sure it doesn't wobble and it spins freely.

ThanksG430, this post helped me out today! Was following some other directions which said to loosen the tension pulley and was doing that but it didn't seem right. Found your post and it made sense. Done in 5mins literally.

Just in case anyone is still not clear...you are NOT loosening/removing the tension pulley. You are just torquing the pulley bolt which will move the tensioner to release the tension on the belt in order to remove belt.

In my case 1999 GS3000, I turned the pulley bolt clockwise, which tightened the bolt, but released the tension on the belt.

Not sure if you've changed yours since you posted this months ago, but I changed mine out around 145k miles. It wasn't loose/wobbly or anything, but the bearings were kind of gritty. You could feel it didn't spin as smoothly anymore. My idler pulley was/is still good though. My idle was a bit quieter afterwards.

Got my car inspected over the weekend and the shop alerted me that there are some cracks in the serpentine belt, but they want $150-200 to replace it.

I've heard it's pretty easy, but I have a 2000 GS 300, so I would think it's going to be different from this DIY. Is there anything different I need to know for when I do this my car, or am I good to go off this (not the route though obviously)?

It's practically the same procedure. Just follow the diagram on your hood so you know how to loop the belt.

$150-200 is robbery.

That's what I figured, just wanted to make sure before I went and did anything.

Which way am I supposed to turn the bolt for a GS 300? It doesn't want to turn either way, but that may just be me not being able to get enough leverage on it.

When I use to get my oil changed at the Toyota dealer, they recommended that I change my serpentine belt for a total cost of $170.
