Steering wheel shake q's

Hey guys....

I went to toyota and got my tires balanced twice..the shaking would go away....it has been 2 weeks of smooth sailing......and now the shaking has returned.... ...it only happens when I reach speeds 60up.........

what could it be?
I got new tires...tie rods and ball joints replaced...im still riding stock no drop no nothing... so until I can get this matter resolved I wont be droppin the blck/blck gscruiser anytime soon.

any suggestions from my fellow cl brothas....

i had the same problem.. but after i got some coilovers the shaking stopped for a good amount of time. but it came back after about 6 months because i started to remove the wheels and work on the car again. now it comes and goes.. i learned to deal with it.

have you had your alignment checked lately?

Try and get the pretensioner tightened. There's a DIY on here somewhere. Something like finding the right size nut, sticking it in the pretensioner, and then using a wrench to turn it VERY slightly. Like millimeter slightly.

alignment i have not yet got done...... and pretensioner....imma have to give that a try also.....ill try n see if the above will work..

thanks in advance...

pretensioner....for the serpentine belt???

For steering rack

That only works on the 98-00 or something like that for the pretensioner. Time to get started on bushing replacements.

I replaced the steering rack, lower control arms, bushings, did alignments, rebalanced tires and although it vastly improved the driving experience of my '99GS400 with 90K miles it did not eliminate the steering wheel vibrations (it did eliminate them until I hit 70 mph .... road force balanced up to 70 mph).

The only thing that DOES eliminate ALL vibration was to have each wheel spin balanced while on the car .... hard to find a place to have this done but it works and cost me $70.

Your wheels could be warped or slightly bent.

Having the SAME problem today.
I just had my alignment and wheel balance done maybe 2 weeks ago.

Will monitor.

i will try all the suggestions listed above if all fails then last thing would be that wheels mite b warped.... ill keep you guys posted....thanks for all the feedback..

OutlawTita Feb 22, 2008 01:21 PM

Spin balance each wheel while it is on the car.....cheaper and works....if you can find someone that can do it. Shops that sell a lot of big rims often do this since this is a problem common to aftermarket oversized wheels.
