driver side auto lock doesn't work! !?!

my driver side auto lock doesn't lock. which means i have to mannualy lock my driver side door in order to lock all 4 doors with remote key. i can see the door lock moves a bit when i try using the power door, but it's not strong enough to lock it. anyone has the same problem?!?! thanx in advance!

This is a very common problem. It's the door lock actuator.

Contact carson toyota. The part is $200 through them, otherwise $300 from other dealers.

Yep, Carson had a $180? special a while back. If you diy, let's just say you will be very knowledgeable on the inner workings of your door upon completion.

I'd like to know how to rebuild them...I may buy a new one and tear the old one apart and look at it. been a mechanic for 10 years so why not?!

JeffTsai Dec 8, 2007 01:19 AM

I believe it's the motor that goes out. It's a dinky little piece of crap that can be bought for $1-2. Just take apart the actuator, remove the motor, put new motor in, clean all the gears and everything up, lube everything up with new grease, and reassemble. You might as well do it since it's broken anyway. Worse comes to worst...you still have a broken door lock actuator lol.

I had rebuild 4 door look actuators...:p. Basicaly i saved around $800
Its not easy, because you have to open the case without braking it:thumbdn:, you need to do it right otherwise, you can not put it back:egads:. Removing the gear on the top of the motor is kinda pain...GL:p

sounds easy enough since I take cars apart all day at work for the past 10 years! But the real question is where do you get the replacement motor? I know...I'll go buy some kiddy toys with electric motors and remove them for my actuators! In fact, I'm going to my friends house tonight that has kids....:uh: lol
