Cool New GS in 2005

I was just at the Lexus dealer getting the 1,000 mile service. There was actually a dude from Lexus there. I asked about the Nav updates. He said he heard March. No ideas on cost yet. He also told me the GS will be updated in 2005. He said they were going to keep the current body style longer than usual. No mention of engine size or what it might look like.

If that guy was legit, then SWEEEEEEEET !!!!!!!!!!!!

Always nice to have the current body style. I always hate how once your truly comfortable and happy with your car, "BAMM" they change the styling...

I still forsee 2004 as the year they will announce the new GS series... In 2003, they will probably add EBD (Electronic Brake Distribution), Seat heaters with 2 levels instead of one, and maybe another Limited Edition (like the Platinum Edition).

Six years seems an awful long time to keep a model literally unchanged, save for the rear lenses and the front grill. I'd have to think since sales are declining on the GS they wouldn't prolong it even longer, I mean think about it: when you see a GS go by, you have no idea what year it is unless you see the rear lights, so in theory in 2004 you could buy a '98 and the new lenses and no one could really tell the difference, that's almost sad.

Hi,
I have a friend that works for Lexus (not sales) and he told me that in 2003 the year before they change the body style there is a cahnse that they will have the current Supra TT engine in the 300, the same thing they have now with the TOYOTA ARISTO V300 Vortex ed. So they might offer a Twin Turbo GS in 2003...and in 2004 is the new body style GS (that is for sure) because the IS300 is redegined then...........

Default THE NEW SUPRA

Toyota 5000GT
More speculation as to whether Toyota will introduce an NSX competitor, and to tie in with its efforts in next year's Formula One season. Toyota recently has been matching Honda model for model and is using all of its considerable marketing clout to make life miserable for Honda in Japan, so a competitor for the NSX is a logical guess.

The V12 used in the home-market-only Century was studied for a possible basis of the engine in the 5000GT, hence its current rumored name. A V12 will provide the panache necessary to compete in an extremely conservative segment, where image counts the most.

I thought that was Electronic Brake Assist?? I think EBD is to have the brake load spread across the 4 wheels in a way that keeps the car from nosediving for example.

If the next generation GS doesn't come with a Sports Package, More Power and a more aggressive design, then there is no way it's going to compete well against the newly designed BMW 545i and the new and upcoming Mercedes E500.

You don't really need to even modify these German cars, since they are already tight and have great handling as well as SPORTS PACKAGES. They also have the free maintenance so that is why most people will pay more for these cars than a comparable Lexus.

Remember not so long ago a good design would last years! LS4 had the same basic design for 10 years, SC 8 yr, ES had the same theme for 9 years... The BMW 740il had the same design for 95 and beyond( the 3 series, 5 series).. Remember the 190, 300, S class Benz..

The 300ZX looks great since 90, Supra 93, RX7 93, MR2 90, and the 911 has been the same forever...

Good designs last bad ones do not!!! So be glad to keep it a while...

I dont understand why Lexus is being so secretive with the design of the new GS, BMW already has the designs of cars for 2k6 or atleast they are explaining how it'll look when the magazines interview them. I really doubt that guy who said that they are just gonna make it longer new what he was talking about. The only ppl who really know about the design of the cars are engineers. Look at GM The Proving grounds for GM is no where near the factories so how would anyone who works anywhere in the factory know how the new designs are gonna be? tell him to get a picture of the design if he can
