Default 245/45/17 tires question

Hi all,
I'm thinking of running 245/34/17 on stock 17" rims. I did some research and saw that some of you do the same thing. Please let me know what this slight change does to the characteristic of the car? Does it drive smoother? Is the handling compomised much due to the taller side wall? Any pics would be appreciated? Last but not least, what tire pressure do you recommend?
Thanks.

I have 245/45/17 for the front. It rides the same as before, but I feel better knowing I now have more rubber on the ground. I mainly bought 245/45/17 for the front because my l-tuned springs do not lower the front enough to even the wheel gaps all around. I prefer the looks of the 235/45/17 though.
