any long distance drivers
I drove to Vegas a few weeks after purchasing my GS in May. Gotta love the soft ride and good A/C. Beats the heck out of driving 9 hours in the WRX's hard seats. Pretty good on Gas too when I used the CC.
hey gang i am about to take a trip from florida to newyork, about an 18 hr drive , has anybody took any long trips like that with thier gs, was it a comfortable ride, any problems on the trip, and what should i check before i leave on my trip, was think about changing my timing belt, i am about to hit 80,000 miles, any suggestions?
Ny – florida
Ny- texas
Ny- DC
NO trouble just watch out for smokies (state troopers)
Simple check list
1. Pick the drivin music
2. check all tires condition
3. check lights
4. check motor oil, tranny & anti-freez fluid’s and windshield washer fluid
5. check Wipers make sure they are in good condition , apply rain-x it helps a lot on the highway
6. keep 1 Qt of favorite motor oil with you.
You will have a blast.
That’s all you need to do you will get great mileage on the highway. Hope this helps

I'm a Road Warrior!! I've driven my GS4 about 8000 miles in the past 3 or 4 months and I love the long distance ride! Very smooth and quite for sure! It just sucks that I have to ride THAT much in that little of time.

I've driven ACROSS the U.S. the last 2 years in a row. In 2006, I left San Diego, bound for Corpus Christi, Texas, and my wife's bowling tournament. I went South and East using Hwy 8 to Hwy 10, and finally to Hwy 37 south to Corpus. The ride and trip were awesome. After leaving Corpus Christi, we went up to my hometown of New Orleans, and visited relatives in nearby McComb, Mississippi.
The ride home was North off of Hwy 10 to Hwy 49, and on to Shreveport and then Dallas on Hwy 20 West. Then 20 to 10 and back to San Diego on Hwy 8.
THIS year, we drove from San Diego to Atlanta on Hwy 20, then down 85 to Mobile, ALA. Took 65 to 10, and back to New Orleans. Stayed a week, and then took 10 all the way back to California.
I have NEVER had a problem with my GS400 on the road. It has 159,800 miles now, and feels as good as it did when I got it back 100,000 miles ago in 2004. I did the timing belt at 90,000 miles in 2005, and will do it again at 180,000 miles. I just change things on time.
There is normally a cushion on the timing belt durability. It should be changed at 90,000 miles. My brother in law did not change his belt until 100,000 miles, and he is getting another 100,000 miles out of the second belt too. He is at 197,000 miles on his LS400, and climbing.
I see NO need to change the timing belt until you get back from your trip if you have 80,000 miles. I don't know of ANYONE who has had a timing belt problem before 90,000 miles on LS or GS applications.
Change your oil, check your other fluids and tires, and enjoy your trip if the rest of the car is running fine. Things like brakes, alignment and filters are normal and should be done if they are needed. I didn't take anything more than an extra quart of oil and a battery-powered flashlight just in case.
ENJOY!!!
