Tell me why I should get a GS400 rather than a TL/CL Type S?

I just like the GS much better. It looks way better to me, and I think it's a higher quality vehicle.

Are you single (GS400) or are you married (TL-S)? If you catch my drift... I'm hip, I'm slick, and all of the ladies love my... Lexus!

What are you looking for in a car and how much budget do you want to spend for this car?

Default GS4!!!!

i had the same quandry as you do now. i looked at the Type-S/Nav and it is a very nice piece. you really cant go wrong with either. but for the money i got the GS, and couldnt be happier. just depends on what you are looking for. Acura is cool but there is nothing like a Lexus. Matter of fact I would get the new Maxima w/ Nav before i would the TL. sorry to add another variable. just get the GS!!!!!!!!

I heard that the 2003 CL Type-S will be coming out in March of next year. It is going to have the 6 speed transmission and is rumored to have 295 HP. It really sounds like a beast!!

They are going to unveil it at the LA Auto Show on Jan. 5th

Default Snowline

North of the snowline stay away from FWD, it can be extremely hazardous in low traction situations.

Use the front wheel's contact patch for steering and the rear wheel's contact patch for "driving".

Talking

Both are nice cars, tho a bit of an apple to an orange. Get the Acura if you like to look at GS taillights and pipes, of which you will have a good view should you try to light up a GS4.

This is a Lex board, so our bias is understandable. Over on the Acura board, you'll get more of the same in the other direction. Drive both, buy what makes you happy. If you compromise, you'll be reminded of that compromise EVERY TIME you drive the car.

good luck!

I would have to say that the GS is more pimp/ballin' than the TL. My father just purchase a 2002 TL Type S. I have to admit that the car has a lot of power and you get a lot of options with it. The interior space of the both cars is about the same. Overall the GS is a bigger and heavier car. The GS rides a lot more smooth than the TL and feels like a lot more solid car. If you want more bang for the buck, get the TL Type S. If you are single and want to get the ladies and bling bling, get the GS. Either way, they are both good cars. I am just a "lexus for life" type of person.

The only advantage I can think of that the TL-S has over the GS4 is that it's cheaper.

New CL-S will have 6-speed and a bump in performance but you ain't gettin any comfort and reliability from it.

if you wanna get noticed (ina good way) and want a smooth, fast, reliable car. get a GS.

if you want a 2nd class luxury , fast, rough riding car and you wanna get noticed by azians that will tailgate you until you race them. get an Acura.

These two cars are in different leagues, 30k can only get you one used GS4. Basically it's no comparison, but here we go.

I love GS for many things, let's take a look upon some numbers here:

GS vs TLS

Speed: 5.8/14.3 vs 6.6/15.2 (these are the averge I took)

Handling: skid pad 0.84 vs 0.81

Braking: 162 vs 186

Navigation: Lexus DVD navigation superior( I tried these two, no comparison)

Stereo: Lexus Mark Levingson

Comfort/quality: Lexus

Styling: GS (subjective)

MPH: 18 vs 19

Price: 58k (otd) vs 35k (otd)

This comes up about once a quarter also...

THEY'RE TWO VERY DIFFERENT CARS. The CL/TL are entry level luxury cars. Cheap wood. Cheap leather. Lots of compromises on features. Front wheel drive, but with tighter suspensions than say an ES300. They're not that roomy either, but roomier than the hotter IS300. The CL/TL though are good value for the price.

The GS I have is roomier than my old Acura LEGEND. It's a rear wheel drive V8 with tons of luxury features. It's $20K more than the CL/TL so one should expect more.

Do people compare the CL/TL with a BMW 540i? Probably not. And so they shouldn't compare CL/TL with GS either.
