Has anyone had this done(steamed or just washed), i heard it might cause some electrical problems and not alot of detail shops actually perform this .... has anyone had a bad experience?

I have washed 100's of engines when i worked at a dealership in high school. I would never directly spray the Alternator . Just use caution and not to much pressure. They make a lot of good engine cleaners.

I know people who have had bad experiences. I'd never take a hose to my engine unless it was on fire.

I checked the oil on a camry my mom was looking at to buy that had just been detailed by dealership idiots. when I checked the oil there was water in the dipstick tube!

I use a damp microfiber rag to clean under the hood.

I've washed my engines many times over. I spray it with water all over the place with no problems, just to be sure to cover the intake and the spark plug valley.

Autozone do have foamy sprays for the engine that really clean the plastic parts well. I think I used some product called Gunk.

Hmm there should be really no problem. Just spray it down when the engine is on. Just watch out for your alternator, your intake if you have an aftermarket one and be light on the fuse box and other elctrical stuff. Dont stay/spray on one area for a long time. Make sure to wipe down everything when youre done!!

Some time + microfiber cloths + cleaner of choice ====

I only use water on my trucks engine, but I dont go mudding in the GS. Like the guys said just be careful and limit the amount of H2O on the alt.

Come to think about, im talking about the GS300, which has a lot of space/room, which makes it easier to clean because you can get thru stuff easier.. Not like the V8s, im sure its harder in a way to dry off the engine bay..

And for smaller areas and crevices....brake cleaner or any pressurized bottle spray can get any dirt or grim out with ease!!

Just make sure not to keep spraying on rubber pieces.

I use Simple Green with a brush and hose off around the engine. I use an air compressor to blast everything off until dry. Works great.
