Is Your Windshield Tinted???
I did a search on the subject and noticed that several people here have tinted windshields. I want to do this but not if it makes driving at night difficult. Safety first, lol. But what percent tint do you windshield folks have on yours?? And does it make a BIG difference as far as night vision is concerned?

I've got 35% tint all the way around... I don't find it that much of a problem... But it definately does affect your night vision to some degree. I drive a lot of dark wooded backroads.. and I find myself paying much closer attention to the road as I don't feel I would be able to spot a deer or something as easily.

Be sure to check with your local DMV, in most states tint on the front is a big no-no.

Tint on the front windshield is illegal in all states. Most states don't even allow tint on the front windows. But if you must, I would say maybe a 50-70% film.

as far as i know there are tints:uh: (i can't recall if u really call that a TINT!) that are almost clear and it can deflect sunlights, it's kinda expensive but i would'nt mind driving to vegas seeing everything around u and not a small amount of heat goes through ur car-bad thing is it won't work if u have radars etc.

I had it on my Acura and I hated driving at night. The day was great b/c it kept the inside a lot cooler, but eventually took it off due to safety precautions.

I have 40% on mine and have always had tint on my windshield. For me its nicer at night since it cuts glare down but its not for everyone. The radar issue is not really an issue at all. I have yet to not pick up at least 1.5-2 miles range with my escort going through metallic tint.
You can get a film called UV Shield which is around 78% so its almost clear. Keeps out 99% uva & b rays and will keep out around 21-25% of the heat. Not great but better than nothing. |
Having a question about radars detectors and tinting windshields in the same conversation is a scary thought.... Be careful guys and stay safe...

I have the top half of mine tinted 5%, it helps a lot for blocking the heat and the sun for daytime driving, and I already get used to it so night time driving is not that bad.
and yes, they are NOT legal, but since my car is black with black interior, you can't really tell if I drive on the street, just don;t get pulled over ( knock on wood) :D Hell, I live in the desert! |
Illegal here in Utah, but I have the lightest possible. My friend has it semi-dark and let me tell you, it makes it tough to drive at night, especially in the rural interstate freeway...

The shop where I had my windows tinted does not tint the windshield when I asked about it. Don't get me wrong, I was never interested in having my windshield tinted. I overheard one of the employees talking about a customer who had his tinted but wanted it removed.

5% in the front windshield for me. I use NVGs in the evening.
|
i have mine tinted 50% or 60% i can't remember but it does not affect my night driving at all. living out here in the desert really helps cut down on the heat and uv rays. today it hit 107 degrees. my car is tinted all the way around with the same percentage. at night you can barely tell i have tint.
