Personally I didnt like using a belt sander, it took long, I ran out of sand paper and ended up using a cut machine (much quicker), then used rubber undercoating to cover up the exposed metal..

Use 50 grit or less and it will cut down a lot faster and using only one belt per side. Using a "cut machine" especially high RPM in the wrong hands can get loose, kick out of your hands and scratch the the paint. Also the cut can be sharp so if you do cut, it still should be sanded down a bit.

There are plenty of people capable of cutting without any problems and it is a lot faster.

For others slow and steady wins the race.

People just need to be aware of the what the risks are and decide for themselves what method they're comfortable with using.

looks good, great write up...except that is the rear quarter panel not fender buddy. Just an FYI...not trying to be a smart azz. I see the fender term used a lot.

I dont know but I used 50 grit and a ton of pressure and yet the progess within 2 hours was not exactly significant, maybe it was the 100 dollar sander that I bought, But the cut machine got it done...(well almost still have some more to shave after yesterday b/c of a large dip on the parkway the right fender rubs no big deal)

theres a metal sander that works real well. Its a little flat metal thingy that u just use to grind it down.

I was expecting it to go quick, i guess the belt sander i used was crap so thus it took forever to shave one side, and then ran out of sand paper so I had to use the cut machine, I liked it better.

yes no heating required. just go slow and steady. don't stay on one part for two long for risk of heating the metal too much and burning the paint.
