Question stumped! what 2 do now?

a couple weeks ago i posted about a problem i was having with my cooling fans running even when it's cold outside. i got a reply to check my temp sensor or a relay. can anyone tell me where these items are located on the car and can i change them easily myself. im asking because i went to the dealer and one of the techs told me it probally would cost me at least $450 because the problem is not constant and might not trip a code. the tech told me to try another shop because they(the lexus dealer) would work slow on that type of work. $100 per hour labor+$125 for diagnostic+part cost. has anyone else had this problem or can tell me where these items are?

I have no idea exactly where the sensor would be but it shouldn't be to hard to find. Follow the wiring from the fan to a threaded sensor usually found in the radiator, that's it. I have seen a few engines where the sensor was mounted below the thermostat, but these engines weren't Japanese engines. If there is a relay I'm assuming it's in the fuse box and should be well marked. Have you checked the obvious first? Plenty of coolant? The right kind of coolant? When was the cooling system last flushed? Is the water pump dripping? Just some more ideas to help in your search and repair.
