Exclamation Auto Locks Not Working!!

What's up people, well I have a 2000 GS 300, and just yesterday the two left doors, don't lock or unlock automatically, only the two right doors. Does anybody have any ideas if perhaps a fuse is damaged or what could be the reason for this. Thanks in advance....

Maybe, but doesn't it sound kind of strange that both left side actuators would go out at the exact same time?

I don't think that's what the original poster meant. I think he meant that his driver's side doors don't lock when he hits the lock button.

In your case, did the doors previously lock when you put the car into to drive and unlock when you put the car in park, and then one day that feature just stopped working? If so, it sounds like one of your c-best settings got turned off somehow (although, I don't know how that could have happened). Only the dealer can turn that feature back on.

actually having the doors unlock when shifting back into P is a dealer setting, which is not recommended, because it puts unnecessary wear and tear on the already quirky actuators

Did this feature come with on the 98 GS4's? I'd LOVE to have this feature as i have a 2 year old. It would make me feel much safer if the auto-lock/unlock feature was on this car.

Hey David. Yes, you can have the dealer turn this feature on. It's called C-best settings. There are a bunch of different customized settings that are available for various functions (e.g., the sensitivity of the auto-headlights, the auto-tilt steering wheel, etc.). I had the auto-lock feature turned on when I first got my car. I had the dealer turn the feature off within a week. Here's why. First, although it's definitely a good thing to have the car automatically lock when you put it in drive, it's definitely not a good thing to have the car unlock all 4 doors when you put the car in park, particularly if you have a small child in the back seat. Not to sound paranoid, but if I've got my kids in the car, I want to make sure that the rear doors stay locked at all times unless I unlock them (you never know who's in the car next to you or lurking around the corner -- seriously). Also, the door lock actuators on our cars are known to go out, and having this feature turned on would only make the actuators fail more quickly.

Just my .02.

Thanks for the heads up e-man. Definetly something to consider. I'm gonna do some deep thinking to see which benefit outweighs the other. Thanks again.
