Default best starting platform

i am new to the lexus scene and was just wanting some basic information. i was wondering what was the best platform to start with. the gs400 or gs430. are there any differences between the years such as, ease of modification, ease of tuning, minor improvements to drivetrain. is there a certain year i should stay away from. thanks for the help in advance.

Welcome Ryan

Please try the search feature and you'll find a lot of the stuff you're asking (or may want to ask), no waiting. For example, I searched for the question "Should I get a GS400 or GS430?" using "gs400 gs430 difference" as keywords and found the following threads among others.

The GS Series has few problems, if any. The earlier years (98/99) have more quirks then the later years, but both have been known to have:

Moisture in Healights
Low/rough Idle Issue
Door Actuator Problems
Dash Rattle
Sunroof Rattle
Vibration at Highway Speed

I need to add a couple of items to this regarding ball joints as well.

Are there any technical service bulletins? TSBs
