Default Front passenger side rattle SOLVED!!!

For about the past year, I've had this annoying rattle coming from the front passenger side of the car. It only happens when I'm driving over sharp uneven surfaces, and it almost sounds as if something is loose (like a plastic on plastic sound). Anyway, because no one cared enough to ride around with to figure out where it's coming from, I've had to live with it . . . that is, until today.

I don't know if anyone else has problem, but the fix for me turned out to be the adjustable seat belt thingy. I kind of suspected that was where it was coming from. Sometimes I would pull out the seatbelt so it rested over the hip/shoulder of the passenger seat, and the noise would go away for a while until the seatbelt slipped back into its normal position. Anyway, today, right as I left work, I moved the seatbelt height adjustor from the top position to the bottom position, and the rattle completely went away. It's a miracle. Now if I could only get that damn sunshade to stop ticking.

I am on a rattle hunt this weekend. I've got the sunshade tick going pretty bad right now. I think I might take some door edge guards and try to run them along the rail that runs under the sides of the sunshade. That should provide enough of a wedge to stop that thing from ticking. If it works, I'll post up a DIY.

How about an update on the mounts?

Nice find. I, on the other hand, have a rattling passenger seat. When I drive over somewhat rough road, I hear the passenger seat rattle. Whenever someone sit there, the noise goes away. So I took my hand and punched the seat (where you rest your back on) and that noise appeared. I tightened down the rail and it still had the noise. I guess I need to replace the seat

Did you try reclining the seat at a slightly different angle? Just a thought.

By the way, my "fix" is really just a band-aid. I mean, if a really tall person sits in the seat, he or she will need to adjust the seat belt adjustor back up to the highest position.

I'll try that tomorrow. I'm gonna go to the dealer and punch one of their seats to see how much theirs vibrate

One day I'm going to take out my sunroof cover and sound deaden it. It doesn't annoy me as much as dash rattles, but I'm trying to make my car a Lexus and not a ford fiesta

Yeah, I do that too, but as soon as you hit a bump, the sunshade slides back an inch or so and it starts ticking again.

Rominl posted up a good DIY thread that shows how to fix the problem. Give me a second to find it . . .

Here it is:
