I don't enjoy the idea of dropping 550 on service either really, but I don't understand the concept of purchasing a Lexus, then griping about having to spend to maintain it.....

But I digress....

Call a Toyota delaership and see if they can do it; if so, most assuredly, it will be less costly.

Good Luck

$550? That sounds like a lot. I just had my 30K service done this weekend and it cost me $330. I'm in Orlando. You would figure that the prices should be the same everywhere.

Well, if you have only 30k on your Lexus and you believe anything other than the engine oil, oil filter, and intake air filter needs service then you had better head to Lexus.

You can do the 30k service yourself for under $50, just read your owners manual and ignore what the idiot money-grubbing dealer tells you.

Lightbulb Fluids

Mike - The choice of oil is up to U but most Members use Mobil 1 or another synthetic oil ( 5W-30 is fine ). Mobil makes an excellent oil filter as well ( the GS4 uses the M1-102 - not sure about the 300 ). Suck out as much of the brake fluid as U can & then open the bleeders to drain the rest - consder a refill with Motul fluid or comparable brand. Lexus rear differential lube ( 90W ) will be fine unless U install an LSD then run a synthetic or add a can of Mr. Goodwrench LSD additive to prevent the LSD from making that "chunking" sound. Swift says that they haven't found a better tranny fluid than Lexus makes so stick with it. The coolant MUST be the new longer life style - if U mix the regular it won't hurt things but will basically convert the 100k mile stuff into conventional in terms of life span. Lexus' coolant is made by Texaco as is their rear differential lube. Figure on 5 quarts of oil for the pan & 1/2 qt for the filter; 1-1.5 cans for the brake fluid; 1-1.5 bottles of differential lube; a gallon of coolant ( get 2 so U'll have plenty for adding as needed ( use distilled water to minimize mineral buildup within the radiator ) ); & the Lexus tranny fluid is only available in 1 gallon cans s - figure on 2.5 - 3 quarts for a drain & refill. These capacities are for a GS400 but should get ya in the ballpark. As Willard said - all easily done with common handtools & in your driveway/garage. I have the SRT intake so Steve Ganz will be the man to help with the air filter & ALL prices!! Have fun!!

just find a dealer that charges less. I paid around 240 for 30k service.

It's not only the fluid. If you have other problems they can spot those too. It's just that they charge TOO MUCH labor.

isn't it in the manual?

If not I think you can ask the dealer to give you a FAX of all the fluids or something. They can't hide that from you.

Wink Look Again!

CASH - Go back & read my post again. I've listed the fluids, their weights & choices of brands there. The capacities of the 400 versus the 300 may be different but they're still both Lexus automobiles!
