Yeah, stop and go traffic and short trips (resulting in lots of gas wasted heating up the engine) is a real mileage killer. My 01 430 has been getting ~15-16mpg with 75/25 city/highway driving since it got cold. When it was warmer even with my lead foot (since I only bought my car 3 months back) I was getting ~18.5ish 75/25 city highway.

I know my car is a tiptop shape cause I just finished driving from Salt Lake City Utah to Flagstaff arizona, going ~85 1/2 the time and 75 the other 1/2 and I still averaged 24.8mpg. Its just stop and go traffic combined with the recent changeover to winter gas/colder weather thats bad.

Resurrecting this thread to get this discussion going again. My MPG seems to be creeping lower and lower, as reported by the NAV's trip computer. It was around 18mpg, but has dropped to 17, and now to about 15. I have checked and corrected the tire pressure. Any obvious things I should be looking for? It is the case that this car is due for an oil change, but I should think that alone wouldn't cause fuel economy to sag--or does it?
Any feedback appreciated.

My driving routine has stayed the exact same for the last three months, and my foot hasn't gotten any heavier. I have tried getting gas (always premium) from different gas stations, just to see if that improves things.

This thread made me wonder for a second if I should have gotten a 300 instead. (The 300s were not that much better, anyway, right?)

Just figured my second fill up at around 18mpg. I have been grandpaing it on purpose, too.

I am going to reset the ECU soon.

The GS300 is not any better. Having driven one for a week, no amount of fuel savings would be worth it, never mind zero.

Yeah, I'm thinking I'll have Exact Motorsports change the plugs and airfilter, etc. All that, just to get back to 18mpg!

change your fuel filter and sock.... there are a FEW DIY on them on here. be careful with the O-ring

I also need to add, be careful with the full line. Make sure when you installing everything back that full line is under the full gage. This is the OEM part number for the filter. 23217-46090.

Initially bought a GS300, thinking it would be better on gas. It was terrible. Bought a GS430, it was the same, except not slow as *****. So overall, the V8 is the way to go.

actually that part # you just gave is JUST for the sock

the part # for the fuel filter for the 1998-2000 models is 23300-74330
the part # for the fuel filter for the 2001+ GS430 models is 23300-0A020 (i do not know if this works on the GS300 for certain but i would bet it does)

Had it done and now I'm back up to the 18-20mpg range for Bay Area driving. Again, very happy with the service and work at Exact Motorsports. Thanks for the advice, everyone. (Sakataj: still looking into your suggestion. Saw the DIY; not something I can do on my own.)

Could be that your O2 sensors are going bad. I have 123K and just returned from a trip to North Carolina. I got 28 MPG with BP 93 but was all highway at quite possibly above speed limits. I normally get around 420 miles to the tank full with a mix of 40% highway/ 60% city on Sunoco 93.

My just-under-20 mpg is, I think, what one would expect for the type of driving I do. Lots of stop/go traffic, idling in rush hour, etc. (Welcome to the Bay Area!)
