LED SIlhouette DIY help
I ordered the LED's on Ebay, 10 total for 5 each side in white.
You'll need a 10mm ratchet and a phillips screw driver to take off the side skirts.
***taking off your wheels makes the job extremely easy***

and if you're working at night.... one of these bad boys makes the job much easier!!!

I have a Veilside K1 side skirt so I did not want the LED's too close to the sides as those are the lowest points. So to help minimize the light output differences, I tried to make the plane as even as possible. The LED's at the end will sit approx 1 3/4" away from the end, each LED will be 19" away from eachother.

You'll want to use a 7/8 bit to drill a 22mm hole. & remember spacing should be uniformed thru the whole side skirt. I just laid down some blue painters tape and followed it's lines and used a sharpie to mark my final drill point.

drill away!!! make sure to drill into the tape. I just do this b/c i'm always afraid of spreading paint cracks.

now just wire them up! & remember to use a 5amp circuit breaker inline at the end of each row ibetween the source and its power.

My question now....
I've got the side skirts wired and complete and now i'm just looking for a power source. Where is a good source to tap power from? Each side skirt has the wires coming out into the car via the front of the door jams where the front cabin feet is located.

Nice write up. I have been wanting to do this mod for a while now too.
How about wireing it into the power for the mirrors?
Did you order sideskirt leds or just plain led clusters off ebay and if you dont mind me asking what is your total cost?

i basically did mines with the help from pete (phml) where we tapped into the center map light where everytime you open the door, the front upper dome light comes on.. it treats me real nice so everytime i open the door, both sides skirts come on..
how did you run your wires?
i thought about doing this mod as well- but instead of drilling into my side skirts - i went to home depot and bout a 10 foot line of aluminum rail that has a cross section that looks like a square with one side missing.
This way the wires stay within the rail and away from the elements and all i have to do is drill the holes into the aluminum wherever i want the lights and then drill the aluminum rail into the undercarriage of the car.
But... before I start doing anything - how should i run my lights??
thanks in advance.

Hey uptownGS, you might want to solder and shrinkwrap those wires rather than just using the twist cap. The area where those LED's you installed is most likely to be exposed to the elements. If water doesn't get to the wiring first, then the vibrations over time may loosen the twist caps.
Good luck!

After I finished running all my wires I used Clear Silicone & Contact Cement to seal up the touchy feelie parts and kept the wires nice and snug to the inside of the sideskirts. I haven't sealed up the actual LED units yet b/c I want to power them up and get them running so I could adjust any light output angles....Once all the beams are aligned I will silicone them up so no water gets in.
Why I chose twist caps? For 14awg wires I felt twist caps would hold stronger then a regular solder job..... its hidden in the side skirt so I dont need it to look pretty. The twist caps also provide a cover for the exposed wiring... and coupled w/ silicone and electrical tape.... no water is going to get inside.
just to update I resoldered everything to make it nice and snug against the sideskirt..... I used this silicone type adhesive to bond the wires against the sideskirt so they aren't flapping around in there.....
ended up wiring them up to the clock..... on the top and bottom right hand side of the plug there are 2 wires, top is light blue and it is power.... directly on the bottom of it on the lower right hand corner is the ground.
I ended up putting a switch in my ciggerette adapter but right before I almost demolished my ciggerette adapter I realized that I'm gonna need to charge up my cell phone so i decided to scratch that idea and just drill a hole somewhere to mount the switch. So that was an hour wasted...
only problem I have now is that the switch I bought is lighted.... so its a dim small led light on at all times.... when I turn the switch on it gets brighter. Hope this doesn't drain my battery, I' think it'll be ok for my Yellow top but I'll look into other switches later.
on a good note, all the puddle lights lined up perfectly.. no readjustments needed.... b/c of the veilside sideskirt the skirt has a slight curvature to it so some LED pods are closer to the ground then others but b/c these LED's are so narrow, you cannot tell there is any difference in size.... as far as alignment.... straight on perfect!

What keywords did you use to find the multi-led units? I tried "led bolt" but only found single ones. And also, if it activates when you open the door, you only see it for a few seconds while getting into the car right? How do you wire it up if you want it to light up when you unlock the car?
what do you mean by keywords? I bought the LED's on ebay.
so far I've wired it directly to a switch.... when I have more time I'll put a tap in @ the "SOURCE" arm of the switch to go to the footwell lights so that when I use my alarm, open the door, etc etc.... it will come on and fade out, by passing the switch.
