Now I got to tell you guys, and this is no b.s.! I have been picking up every single "1-time" that is anywhere in the vicinity, (obviously as long as he's go radar turned on). I have mine mounted: directly in the center of the windshield about slightly higher than mid-way between the dash and the rearview mirror , (I hope that's easily understood!) Now keep in mind people that this particular radars ability to pick-up/read a rear approaching "1-time" is tremendously reduced if you mount it anywhere else! Even though it doesn't have arrows displaying which way "1-time" is, let's face it, if they're around at all, your *** needs to be slowing down! As far as the way it looks and the cord being obtrusive, in case you haven't seen an 8500, the cord is a heavy duty coiled w/ a telephone jack connector! It is sturdy as hell! And mine neatly lays straight down to the right of the center console right into the A/C adapter. And let me say one last thing, my hand is usually resting on the shifter and it is so f****** convienent the way they placed a mute button directly on the A/C plugin! Trust me this will be the last radar detector you'll ever need.

I mounted mine just to the left of the mirror, leaving enough room to adjust the mirror. The suction cups are up in the tinted part of the w/s. The line of sight of the 8500 is just below the tinted area. I also ordered the direct wire acc. and ran the wire it to the cigarette lighter fuse down by the drivers left foot. The wire tucked b/t the w/s and the headliner. Than I ran the remote back up to the dash. The remote sits on the dash up against the driver's side w/s post. The higher you mount a detector the further down the road it can see. I think I read somewhere that it might help to mount the detector lower for laser, since they shoot for your tag area and they are not used at great distances. This is the reason I don't have a personal tag. In Kansas they don't have front tags unless you get a personal one and than you have to have a front tag also.
