Default clearing a tmu title

I found a 1998 GS 300 for dirt cheap.only problem was it was a t.m.u title. is there a way to fix it?
The sale guy said the title is tmu because the original owner had the car and the odometer light went out. so when he tried to sell it there was no clue how any miles were on the car. thats how it got the title. but now that its fixed(replaced the odometer bulb) the title is still not clear. anyone here know what can be done to clear thisup so i can buy it.....thanks

TMU means true miles unknown and I don't think there is a way to clear that title

Can you carfax the car for its history? How did it get TMU? Does the title said TMU also? Private seller or dealer? $12K is about the right price for that year and mileage. Pass on if you feel suspicious about the car. How can a light/bulb on the odometer went out and the odo won't work? Does anyone here know how a digital odometer works? Please share. I want to know.

Where is the car at? I can stop by to check it out for you.

Send a message over to OLT. He knows all about the cluters. I would think that even if the "light" went out on the odo, the chip inside would still be counting off the mileage. I highly doubt the 2 would be related.

the sales guy said the odometer kept running without the lights. but what i dont understand is why they would put a tmu title just for that when the fix was just a new light....doesnt make sense. oh well...too late..title for that car is already messed up..thanks for all the input.
