I have 2001 GS430 85k miles. My other problem I noticed was that when you put the key in or out your steering wheels goes up and in so you can get out, when you get in it goes to the position you saved it on, mine sometimes gets stuck and if i try to push a botton to go up or down it hesitates sometimes and gets stock, then goes, and when it does move, it makes this lame sound like the motor is about to die that moves the wheel.. Any one has any idea what this could be fixed with? Anyone has a good Lexus mechanic in NYC area to go to, refuse to go to dealer?

mine isnt that bad but it makes some noise once in awhile when going back up i did i just need some lube somewhere.....maybe you could try that

THANKS GUYS.. I WILL TRY TO FIND IT, SO REGREASING IT SHOULD DO IT? sO, YOU DO NOT THINK IT IS THE MOTOR THAT MOVES IT?

Most likely gears AND motors when you're hearing the "straining".
I had mine replaced when it was under warranty, I think both motors and gears.
