Question Need Help with Removing TTE Lip.....

The lip is attached by the glue that came with it and a few bolts, so its not going to be an easy job. Has anyone removed the TTE lip before? Is it possible to take it off without damaging the lip or the bumper.

I would appreciate any advice or suggestions.

No great help, but I hit a BIG raccoon with mine once and ripped off one whole side of it loose. Here's what it will look ilke when it separates so you aren't surprised...

with the adhesive i think it's going to be hard. get the 3m adhesive remover and see if that soften things up a bit, and just try to pry your way

i am not surprised if part of the paint on the bumper will come off

Park ur car where the hot sun can heat up the adhesive a bit....maybe that would help.

Also, try prying it from underneath/behind versus up front where you can damage ur paint.

Other than that...good luck.

I was about to post up the same question...I don't mean to hijack your thread, but I am in the same boat.

I thought the body shop I went to did a phenomenal job, but after closer inspection, they installed it off center leaving a gap. I asked them to redo it and I thought they did. It looked right at first, but instead they molded a filler piece on to the lip to cover up the gap. The filler is where the extended part on the top of the lip covers the recess in the stock bumper.

I have searched CL and haven't found one person that has had trouble with the TTE lip, unless it was installed incorrectly, but the body shop claims that the lip was not made very well. They did a great job with my L-Sportline rear and paint matching, which I thought would be the hardest parts of the job.

Should I expect the front bumper to be damaged when they remove the lip and will the lip still be salvagable? I am not too worried about the shop's desire to get it right, as they seem to be very good people and came highly recommended, but I do want to be prepared for any problems that may arise.

Thanks for any insight.

best thing:

drive off of a curb, hood first, slowly. Let the front bumper slam the street and you'll end up with something very close to Dave's.

Trust me it works!!!

LOL

This lip is very strong.........I have hit a bunch of things already with it but its still not moving.

You guys think a bodyshop might be able to take it off somehow?
