sunroof shade rattle fix
ok, so here's the fix my lexus tech provided me with to fix the stupid rattle fix in my sunroof area. a lot of people have been asking me about the fix and pics and i finally get to do this write up.
just some histroy. i have had this problem for the longest time ever since i got my car. there will be this annoying rattle coming from the area, and after pushing and pressing, i found out that the sunroof shade was the cuase. if i push on the shade, it's gone. if i slam it all the way it's gone. however as i drive, the shade will start to get loose from the slam position and start rattling again.
so after talking to the master tech, the solution would be to "tighten" up the shade, so it doesn't slide too easily. well, turns out by doing this, i fixed the root cause of the rattle as well. here i will show pics of the problem and the fix. these are the best pics i could come up with already....

what you need to do next is to pull down the lining. sounds hard, but very easy. just grab it by the edge and pull. there are only couple of clips, very easy
noticed that the shae is still all the way open. and you can see where the rail is as well for the shade

ok, here's the FIX. it's very cheap, pretty much free. just get some foam from anywhere you can imagine. what you want to do is stick these foam betwee the front tab / **** of the sunshade and the rail. as shown in the following pic where i circled the part. just stick some in. when you pull down the lining, you will see there is a little tab on the front part of the shade, stick the foam between it and teh bottom of the rail
the pic is here in the pessenger side

so after this, depending on how much foam you stick in, the sunshade will get tightened up. don't get greedy and stick in a lot, it won't work. do it little by little to figure out what's good for you.
now this is fun. after it's tightened up, not only does my sunshade not sliding around at will anymore, the rattle is gone!!! ends up being that the two tabs left and right they WERE what causing the rattles in my car. so now by sticking in the foam, it's all gone
so here you go, that's my fix. keep in mind though, i know a lot of people have noise in the sunroof, and i have also seen 1000 causes.... so this particular fix might not really do much in your case. so good luck. it always helps to locate the exact cause of the problem, then to fix it

no problem neo, anything to help
just couple more notes.
1) there is no particular location where to put the sunshde when you do this. i pick the middle position coz' that's where you can pull down the most lining.
2) for the foam, just jam it in using a little flat head screw driver or something
3) from the pics you can't really see the tab, coz' it's very small and it's inside teh rail. but if you look at your car you should see it. at least location wise it's towards the front of the sunshade

oh and i forgot, one easy way to see if your sunshade has the potential rattle problem, try to do this. have the sunshade half open, and then use your finger to tab on the front middel part of the sunshade (close to the handle), start from light and gradually increase the force
when you do this, try to listen both sides of the shade and see if you hear any rattle. if so, this can significantly reduce that

Awesome Henry, thanks so much for doing this. Much appreciated. Will give it a try.
One question, why doesn't the foam you put in move around? Should it be stick down foam?
