Default MY GS won't start

MY 99 GS3 with less then 80K mile lately experience some delay start problem. Normally when I insert the key and start the car, it will start with the first turn, lately, when I first turn, nothing happen, but then turn again or the third time, it will start. I know it's not the battery as I just replaced it 2 months ago. Anyone experience this before? Would it be the alternator (sp?)?

if you just replaced the battery 2 months ago its more than possible that you didnt tighten the clamps on the battery posts good enough. If you have a loose terminal it will cause you to have a delayed start, no start, weird electrical occurances etc.

go wiggle your connections and see if they move....thats the first step to this prob....good luck

definately check or clean your terminals, this same thing happen to me and it was dirty terminals from cleaning products that got stuck inbetween. i took them off clean with a metal type pad and no more issues since..i hope its something small .

i agree, before jumping on to the alternator or the starter, look at the terminals to make sure they are all tightened and clean

i had the same problem with my car and i brought it to the dealer. And they replaced me a brand new stater. I thought it was a problem with my battery at first too, and i replace my battery for no nothing.

yep thats the same way mine was....its probably the starter or starter selonoid...goto your local autozone and have them test your battery/alternator if both come up good....then you know what it is......but im pretty sure its one of the starter components...if i remeber right it was around $400 to fix at the dealer

hey,

i went out to my car at about 3:30am and tried to start it and it just wouldnt start it squeeked and screached and no start!! I pumped the gas and still nothing for about 20mins i was damn near in tear saying "Its only a 98 WTF, i treat u so good and now this......" so after a few more tries i ran in to get my husband and he came out and tried after a few more tries it started but was sooooooooooo weak! i poped the hood and everything looked ok no smoking or anything then i tried to close the hood and it wouldnt close i was so mad at my car! so i left it with the hood barely closed and shut the car back down until this afternoon!
I went back out to start it and it did but not quickly, when i turned the key it hesitated for about 2seconds then kicked over... i let it run for about 1/2 hour and then shut it off to restart it!! Same thing happened it started but not qucicky!

Tomorrow i will be bringing it to my dad to check my battery and if not that then my starter ect!

I was suppost to get my "Remote Starter & Alarm" installed but the way this thing is Looking/working i might have to get a new starter first!!

Hope not wish me luck!

Thanks

~Kia

Well, it is a 98. Unless you've changed the factory battery, it has been 6 years. Both rominl and I had similar symptoms recently and a new battery fixed it right up.

Default Replaced 2001 GS430 Battery @ 50k miles

2001 GS430 50k miles, original battery.

Car wouldn't start in the very cold, 15F.

Battery had been showing end-of-life signs for a while (died while installing remote starter after starting six times, car started fine the next day, though). Last week, car wouldn't start, got a jump, drove a while, stopped, started without issue. But one week later, battery was dead again.

Replaced with 600CCA EverStart battery. Problem solved.
(Not my choice of battery, but I needed one quickly, only Wal-Mart was open...and it was only $45.)
