Default Fog Lights Busted?

my friend has a 98 gs with HID and the yellow fog lights. for some reason, when he turns on the headlights with the fog light switch on, his fog lights won't turn on. they only turn on if he switches on and off the high beams. only then will they turn on. do anyone of you have this problem? thanks.

Even with the foglight switch in the "on" position, once the high beams are switched "on" the fogs will automatically turn "off" on their own until the high beams are turned back off. I guess the logic behind this is if you actually needed your high beams while driving at night, obviously conditions must be clear with no fog- so no need of the fog lighting.

actually, it's the law. i believe the law says at any time only two heads of front light can be on, that's why.

for example the v300, the fogs are even on a totally separate harness. it's on whenever the parking lights are on

anyway, on the fogs, what if he turns on the headlights with the fogs off, and then then on the fogs? very weird problem to me

henry,

that's the problem, with the headlights on, it doesnt matter if he switches the fogs on or off, they will not turn on. they won't turn on until he flicks the highbeams on and off. i find that weird too.

ummm that's weird, somehow it sounds like a relay problem for me. seems like the fogs *think* that the highs are on that's why they are off. and until you flick the highs now it knows the highs are off

yeah, sounds rite, probably the enable on the relay mite be shorted to gnd to disable the fogs until you flick the highbeams. but if it's a short, that would be bad tho, could fry some things. gonna help him check out the relay this weekend. henry, you think his signal switch could be bad?

well, it depends, if it's a pretty independent switch, then shorting to gnd doesn't really cause much harm, sometimes it won't even blow any fuse as long as it's not power.

i think the signal switch should be on a different system, as it works regardless of the headlight system?
