Music Box Like Melody
Ok, first know I am NOT crazy
I have a 2001 GS300 that intermittently plays a short, very high audio quality tune that sounds like something coming out of a music box. It's much better audio than typical warning tones. I'm not sure where it comes from, but appears to eminate from the area around the driver's feet (possibly the driver side door speaker?). So far I haven't found a pattern to when it plays, but once it starts it seems to happen within 30 seconds after I start the car each time THAT DAY, and then it stops. At first it happened only on holidays and I thought it was a cute Lexus gimmick, but it has also happened on non-holidays. Occasionally it has happened while driving. Once, when my grown daughter had the car, she said visual notes appeared on the NAV system screen as it played just as she approached a NAV destination (I haven't personally seen that). I checked to see if it might be related to maintenance due warnings, but that feature was disabled. Lexus service says they know of no such sound, although they said cars sold in Japan do have "special electronic features" that are not normally seen (or heard) in US spec cars..
HELP! Has anyone else every experienced this? Any idea why it happens?
Rick

The only thing I can think of is that you're near enough to some marked points in your nav that have sound effects associated with them. Given the source of the music (driver's side only, where the nav audio comes from) and the fact that your daughter saw noted on the nav screen, I feel fairly confident that's what it is.
Go into your nav setup and get to the "marked points" section. Push "edit marked points", then select one. You can change the icon to include sound effects, and I'm guessing someone did this with yours (either playing around or a previous owner of your car set some).

Iceman nailed it. There are sound icons in the NAV system that can be associated with marked points (which I must have unwittingly done) and, whenever you get near one of those locations, it plays a little music box tune and displays notes on the NAV screen. Mystery solved!

Iceman's right. Your daughter has marked all the spots in your neighborhood she likes to party at, and made them all have a sound associated, so when you're driving near any of them, the car makes a sound.
