Default My sunroof won't stay closed

When I psuh the button to close the sunroof on my 98 gs3 the thing closes and then opens about halfway back. The only way I can get it to stay closed is to inch it shut a bit at a time..... Any suggestions? Thanks in advance...

This has been discussed quite a few times but since you're apparently new, here's some advice. Mine does that once and awhile. I find that if I put some pressure on bottom of sunroof, i.e. push upward as it closes, then it stays closed.

May want to do a search on that topic as it was discussed a few months back quite extensively.

Good luck.

one of the metal clippings on that bar for the windshield is broken. The actual clipping that goes into the arm that moves up when you are opening up the sunroof. Anybody know where I can go to replace it? or if I can do it on my own? I'm in so Cal btw.

I tried to search for these posts for the sunroof/moonroof not closing fully, but only came up with a couple. Can someone point me where these posts are? (sorry guys, newbie here)

My problem is similar to the ones discussed, where the sunroof doesn't close all the way. It closes, but then immediately starts to open up.

I saw the post with the rattle prevention with the foam, but I also have this problem, and hopefully someone can help.

Your car just wants more of that fresh Spring air.

Don't fight it; embrace it...

I'll take a look, but I think there is nothing stuck in the rails.... I figured it out... I press the tilt switch as the sunroof closes when it is in the "closed" position, and it works.....

As for the dealer, I just purchased the car second hand and its a '98 with 72k.... so no warranty right?

Clean out your sunroof area, there could be dirt and other things stuck there which is causing this. I had this problem with my drivers side window-I would close it all the way but it would come back down half way-I cleaned out the inside of the window (where the glass would sit when it's closed) and never had the problem since I think it's a security setting or something, like the the elevators-if there is something stuck in that area it will open back.

My pops LS had that same problem the day he picked it up from the dealer. It was just a little dirty and the silver bar up top wasn't going down smoothly as the sunroof slid over it. The resistance causes the sunroof to open back up. They cleaned up a bit, sprayed some lubricant, and it was fine after that.
