Question Dead Battery?

I havent started my car or been able to drive for the past 4 weeks due to ACL surgery. This morning I got into my car to start it and the engine wouldnt turn over... Im pretty sure its the battery. Has anyone had the battery drain from not starting the car for 1 month. I checked and there are no lights on in the car. What could be draining the battery?

Most batteries just slowly drain even if they're sitting by themselves... most cars draw at least very slight amperage 24 hours a day whether the car is on or not, just to keep certain vital things up to par like the starter, the clock, etc. Cold weather is especially hard on car batteries that haven't been started in a while.

Just use some jumper cables and get it jumped or take the battery out to your local auto parts store and get them to recharge it. Unless of course your battery is already old enough to not bother with- then buy a new one.

sure, my car is sleeping by herself for about 2 weeks and I have a hard time starting the car with the optima hee hee. My gf 03 civic stays outside for 3.5 weeks and it started fine (at 40F outside temp). bummer.

Default Dead Battery

One other item to watch is the setting for your "Auto-On" Lights. I've learned the hard way, seems the '98 had some greater chance of drain when parked for periods with lights in this setting. I've gone through three batteries while parked in airports for week long period. Used to travel 80% of the time so this was too common and I was given advice of turning lights to "Off" when parking but forgot sometimes due to being rushed to catch a flight.
