A/C related question(s)
Hey guys,
my A/C suddenly stopped working, with the AC light blinking on the control panel. At first I thought maybe it's slowly lost the charge to a threshold. But today I went to the mechanic, and it had a full(!) charge, which is crazy since it was never recharged! No leaks in 23 years...
We found the issue though: the internal coil part of the speed sensor was dangling around on the cable... It seemed as if its plastic housing that holds it in the holder piece was melted and that's why it could fell out? Weird...
Replacing the sensor is a thing, but what would cause that thing to melt? Bad bearing and it overheats the area where the sensor is?:It doesn't sound bad, doesn't make any weird noises. The refrigerant has overheated and heated the compressor up? AC condenser has like 5-10% fins oxidized away, but I wouldn't think that'd be cause such bad cooling.
Also, the mechanic thinks, that part of the compresor is under pressure, so the sensor can't be removed without draining the system. It doesn't seem so in my opinion... Or is it really?
And finally a weird one: when reading the codes, apart from the missing/bad speed sensor code, there were two others, related to the sunlight sensors on both the driver and trhe passanger side. What does it have to do with the AC? I thought it just dims the instrument panels and that's it. (Which it does I think so I'd think the sensors work. Also, the mechanik says, there's no sensor on the passenger side so that's a permanent code that can be ignored. Is it true? The driver side one is transpoarent red, the passenger side is black, so it may indeed be just a blind plug, but then why does it threow an error code and why is there a separate error code for something that doesn't even exist?. I only find one sensor on wiring diagrams. Or if anyone knows, what are the part number or numbers for them?
I also read that these(!) sensors(!) (yes in plural!) do self test, and if it happens in shadow/darkness/garage, then these errors pop up, but when in sunlight then they go away. How do I perform such a self test so that I can check them in sunlight?
