When i put into drive the steering wheel locks up... why?
its fine until i put it in drive... and no i dont mean the power steering gets tough, i mean it locks up as in what it would do when u remove the key and turn the wheel to lock it... it isnt locked when the key of off though, it doesnt lock until you put it in drive.. and soon as you put it back in park it unlocks.. i cant figure it out! help please

In the automatic shifter box there are two sensors. One is the park switch and it releases the key only when its in park it also releases the shifter so it can be shifted from park along with pushing the shifter button. If that switch is broken, you couldn't remove the key (because the cylinder won't rotate to off) or shift out of park without hitting the shift lock override button. The other switch is for what I assume is the starter interlock so the starter will only engage in park and neutral. It might have something to do with the steering column as well because you could potentially need to steer in neutral but never in park for example. Did you just get this car? I mean its possible that the first switch is broken and instead of fixing it, someone just removed the solenoid that locks the key in the acc position. Normally the lock for the ignition key cylinder is the same for the steering column but I suppose they could be different but on related circuits in this car.

Sounds like the circuit is working sort of backward. Whether sensor or relay, will need wiring diagram to trouble-shoot it. Could be simple thing like loose connector or broken wire.
