Rear wheel drive tire problem
I have had my 20 inch wheels and tires for my 94' gs 300 several months now. This past Thursday I had my second tire go bad on me already. They have both been on the back and had plenty of tread remaining. What has happened each time is the sidewall on the inside of the tire gets cut in one long slash.
I heard a loud bang before this last one got destroyed. I'd like to know should I put spacers on the back when I have it replaced and would that fix the problem? Or could it actually be something else that is causing this to happen?

What size tire are you running? Low profile tires can't take the abuse a regular tire can because they don't have the sidewall to absorb the impact. Did you hit a pothole or bump? You could've just gotten unlucky both times (both in the rear) and hit a piece of rebar or something sharp. The point is, with a super low profile tire, you're going to have more flats when you run over something. The rear wheel drive wouldn't affect punctures.
One very unlikely possibility is that your tire is actually rubbing on the suspension or something. If that were the case, there would be rub marks around the whole tire and rubber would be on the coil spring. You'd hear it too. I doubt this is the case unless your tires are oversized.

245/35 20. These haven't been like catching a regular flat such as running over a nail. Both times, the inside of the tire, for example, the side where the wheel mates with the rotor, have gone flat due to one long cut on the sidewall.
The first one, I had to drive on it a while to get to the tire shop. This I guess caused the wheel to dig further in the tire and chewed big pieces of the tire leaving gaping holes. Recently, I was able to change the tire myself. But if I continued to drive on it the same thing would've happened. Like these can't be patched up or anything. There 100 $ tires that are damaged beyond repair that I just have to throw out.
