Default Horrible creak / groan whenever I turn my sterring wheel.

My 94 GS300 with 270k mi started making a horrible creaking sound. As if something needs to be lubed or greased. I haven't noticed any leaks or anything out of the ordinary. The steering has felt different but not too much.

It almost sounds like some old rusty squeaky pliers that you open and close but on a majorly loud scale. I went under the car and it seems to be coming from the steering rack. I had a buddy turn the wheel left to right but I couldn't pinpoint exactly where its coming from. It is very embarrassing and it does it whenever I turn the wheel even slightly, if I'm going straight it won't do it.

Any ideas?

I've had this car for 9 years since it had 184k and its been a great car. It's in pretty rough shape only 1 window works, seats are beat up, the passenger window trim is missing and the drivers side is seperating, I get crazy wind noise, the paint has water spots, but I still love this car. The A/C will freeze your *** and the heater will melt your face, the engine purrs and the tranny shifts beautifully. This is the best car I've ever had. Hopefully its not something too expensive.

Any leaks in the power steering system? Also check for play in the ball joints as they wear out on these cars and can creak.

So the day after I posted, the horrible sound went away... I had the PS pump rebuilt a couple years ago because it was leaking. I currently don't have any leaks but maybe the pump is starting to go out ???

For a while I had a rattle when going over bumbs and I thought it was something from the suspension. It turned out the brake disc shield had a crack and it would rattle or clunk when turning, unfortunately this time it may be the suspension.

Kind of late but just wanted to let you guys know in case it comes up in a search for a future member TheMole was correct it was in fact my Ball Joint on the passenger side. The car actually dropped as it broke off luckily I was just turning out in a parking lot. It must be the easiest suspension job ever, mind you I haven't done any suspension work but I wasn't expecting it to be that easy.
