Default attempting to pull a code with a paper clip, chime in please

I recently found out I have a misfire, however, I haven't had the time to take it to the shop because of work and school, but anyways, I shorted the te1 and e1 terminals on the connector by the pedals (93 gs300 so obd1) and the o/d off light keeps flashing, if I switch the o/d off the light stops blinking, but once I press it, it goes back to flashing. Little more background that could help diagnose: trans has been acting pretty weird lately, and also from time to time when I do a cold start the rpm needle climbs up to 3k, and eventually goes down. There is hesitation when the car is running, and before it's at operating temp, the engine runs smoothly, once it starts gaining more temperature it starts getting really shaky. It does stay on however, and it idles just below 1k. Sometimes while I'm on the gas it'll stop shaking and run normally and then start shaking again. Do you guys have any idea or experience on what this problem could be?
