Last night I popped the hood and noticed the Alternator wire connection glowing red like a cigarette lighter. My engine was recently rebuild,but has a strange miss once it warms up. Is it possible that the grounds were placed in the wrong locations. The one from the negative battery is grounded to the intake manifold, so are 3 or 4 smaller wires.This is driving me nuts.

I'd put your ground on on the frame of the car. Where are the smaller wires coming from?

they come from the wire harness. they are white w/ a black stripe.

I'd move the ground to the chassis and then the wires I'd find a separate ground possible put an eyelet on them and ground them to the bolt that is bolted to metal....but make sure there is no paint where the connection would be.

that is superbad, check your ground. follow your alternator wire and see if anything is not ground right. or a bad harness
