Default Car shakes at Highway speeds

Ok so my problem has been that on highway speeds the body of the car shakes violently ( actually not too bad since new tires but still bad) and it stops if i slow down a lil bit then continue on. But it happens over bumps, crosswinds, etc. Ive checked the car and have play side to side at both front wheels and at the rear wheels theres play up and down. Im gonna start with the rear control arms unless someone else had any similar problems. ANd i meant rear upper control arms. Found some used on ebay for 50 a peice.

i have the same problem in my car.First i thought maybe my tires where just off balance but after looking into it some more i found that was not the problem.I think i am gonna start with my fronts that where it seems to be the worst at.

The main part that is connected to the body of the car is the control arms. Esp. in the rear they are right with the body. My tie rods are toast too but i cnt see that makin the car sway. The control arms in the front when they go bad your wheel will kinda jerk when you stop. Hope that helps both of us out! lol
p.s. I went to Delaware State. Almost played basketball for them.

Check the tie rods, control arms, ball joints. If they are in good condition look at the cv joint, does it feel worn out? If you turn your wheel all the way to the right and hit the throttle does you hear a clicking sound? If so, it's the CV Joint.

Thanks for the help but if you read my post i was talking about body sway. The only thing a worn out CV joint would do is as you said " click when turning". Thanks anyway. But i have checked all as mentioned earlier in my post.

Sounds like shocks to me. We ended up having bad front ball joints and worn tires...after replacing those it was a little better but still there. Turned out one or more of the stock wheels was bent...but that was vibration, not sway like whats been mentioned. Our is starting to sway like this now too, and I noticed our rear strut cartridges are about gone when I replaced the springs a year ago.

Ok i hear ya...but just think about it...my car is shaking SIDEWAYS. I could understand the shocks if i was bottoming out on bumps or bouncing but its strictly left to right. Also I feel the right wheel bouncing up and down alot like a bad ball joint when im making hard left turns.

Default Possibly the steering damper!!!

Am having the same problem with my 96 Lexus GS300. When I am on the streets and go over a bump my GS sways left and right also when I am on the freeway.

Went ahead and lifted the front of the GS and noticed that the steering damper was missing. I just recently bought this Lexus a few weeks ago. The steering damper is attached to the rack & pinion. I am taking the GS in to have the steering damper replaced and am hoping this will solve the problem.

After reading HyperVish's post

Here is the Toyota/Lexus GS300(1st gen) ball joint recall documents. check and see if your VIN # is in the affected vehicles.

http://nhthqnwws112.odi.nhtsa.dot.go...romPublic=true

out of maybe for example I think out of 32,000 in the first years 27,000 were affected where the ball joint would split apart rendering the car useless until fixed not to mention the body work damage.

(Mine just separated not too long ago, and I was lucky I was at a stop....Picture your car sitting on its underframe)

I dont see any attachment Kene. And to Snakewhite I still have my steering dampner ( looks like a shock) although my outer ball joints are toast.

After driving for a while have you checked if any of your rotors are hotter than the others on one side or the other? Caliper sliding pin siezed causing one wheel to meet resistance and not turning in sync with another?

....my complaint is body roll/shaking. I've delt with a sticking caliper plenty of times and never felt body roll. Are you guessing BinaryJay? OR have you had that persoanly happen. THe main culpret here is suspension.
