Default Which years are better? 93-95 or 96-97

What is the difference between a 93-95 and a 96-97 first gen gs3?
And which do you think is better?

There's quite a bit of small changes but the main difference is the early ones are OBD1 and OBD2 for the later.
96-97's have much better looking rear end!
96-97 has a 5 spd auto, but they're prone to having problems.

The 93-95 have better looking rear with the exception of the 96-97 have better looking color for the tail lights where the stop lights have brighter red and the turn lights are white vs smoke for the earlier model. This give it a more modern look. I hate the way the 96-97 rear center garnish is color keyed with the body making it look narrower and cheap because it look so much like the 95-96 Toyota Camry. I really like the JDM 95-97 tail lights where it have the USDM 96-97 color without the color keyed center, but dislike how the Aristo emblem is raised and prone to get scratch and faded over time vs the earlier model have the emblem inside the center garnish all concealed so it won't get scratch or oxidized.

Well my car is black so it looks similiar to the early tails with the black in the middle. Def looks more modern too, where your reflector lenses are glued in and not smooth makes them look dated.
I'll have to take pics of my car and post them. People also want to see how my IS300 seats look too.

So why not make it look different right from the start?

I might be a little biased, but I love my JDM lights. They give the car a whole new look.

From far away it looks almost black, and then when you get closer you can see it reads Aristo.

Nice very nice, but don't you wish you didn't have to do anything with it in the first place? I'm pretty sure that used up couples hours sanding that chrome trim around the tail lights plus the "Aristo" emblem. That's the only thing that stop me from switching it to the newer JDM version because I have the older JDM on my GS right now. To me, the "Aristo" emblem from the older JDM version make it look like a collectible item being display in a conceal box.

93-95 are OBD I, have sportier looking tails (JDM and USDM are the same except the Aristo-GS300 emblem)
96-97 are OBD II, have luxury looking tails (many more designs than the first years... which with the exception of the JDM lights I think all are quite ugly) and a 'weak' 5-speed tranny

The best thing about 93-95's is that if you swap to the t motor you have to get on the rollers to pass emissions so with tuning and luck you can pass.

On 96-97, if you swap the jdm motor and go to emissions they plug your car (some states) and don't put you on the roller (since it is OBD II)... which = fail emissions = no registration.

I would definetly get the later years because they are cheaper and also because of the 'swap factor'.

Yeh so? It might have taken me 2 hours max to sand them, polish them, and put back on the car. I always like being different and doing custom things. Taking that extra time is what makes us different from one another, and to me is worth it.
