Default new here

hi im new to the lexus/toyota scene moving over from the nissan world lol. but anyways im looking to get rid of my 240sx and was looking at first a SC300 then it came to me that i have 2 kids and a 2 door just isnt cutting it so ive searched and found the GS300 and im kinda liking it, but since im new im lost with everything lol but i do know i want a GS300 but i just dont know what year to look for (im not rich so i cant buy new) so it might be a 1st gen GS. so can everyone fill me in on everything there is to know? like good/bad of the gen 1 vs gen 2?

i would also like to maybe turbo the GE or do a GTE swap can anyone tell me how much the stock GE block can hold boost for (ive heard the tranny can only hold 400ish) and what all would intail if i were to do a GTE swap? like new harness or is it plug and play? thanks from this i can narrow down my search to a specific year....sorry if these are newbie questions but ive been lurking here and trying to find out as much as i could before i asked but some things i just cant find

Hey welcome man, I also came from Nissan (300zx) . I love the gs300, its a mix of performance and luxury, it picks up a little slower then what your used too because of its weight, but after that you;'ll definately pull on a 240sx. the 2jzge has good mid-high performance for its age. Most people however do go turbo or GtE Swap, GTE swap is more expensive, but it might prolong the cars life since it is a new engine, I think its around 4-5k for a gte automatic transmission, going turbo is a cheaper alternative, but check your engine to see if it has any leaks and is ready for a turbo. When it comes to mileage on the gs300, dont be scared of numbers near the 120k mark, many members here have 200k plus and there running fine. The stock tranny I believe can hold around 325hp to the wheels, the block is pretty tough, there was a member who hit 700 hp with a gte headgasket and new arp headbolts, but stock internals. Sorry i couldnt answer everthing, late for school, good luck Hope to cya around the forums.

p.s.
Did i mention you can drift this thing with a good suspension , LSD and a strut bar?
look up EPIK

yea i was reading the other post about the 900+hp off of the GE block, looks like just pistons and your good. that should be enough for me no more than 450hp so what tranny does everyone use in place of the GS tranny? i want to stay automatic cause im tired of manual, its a pain for stop and go traffic + im tired as hell when i get off work so my legs are to tired to have to clutch break gas lol

Don't get me wrong but you just said you don't have much money and you have two kids but would like to spend money rather turboing car than getting NEWER SAFER for kids. My kids safety comes first than everthing else and if I am short on money I would rather look at newer camry with like 6 airbags than an older gs300.

this will primarily be a work to home to work car, but there are times when i need to take the kids to the inlaws (15 min drive) or a doctor visit. we have a family car 300C but my wife drives that and in reality im stuck if anything were ever to happen
